Legal Counsel - Commercial Generalist (UK, Dutch, German, French or Swiss Qualified)


£100k - £120k + bonus potential & equity DOE


Hunter Douglas is seeking two highly skilled and motivated bi-lingual Legal Counsel with a strong commercial background to join our EMEA legal team.


Hunter Douglas is the global market leader for Window dressings, with a revenue of approx. $5 billion globally. Operating across 136 entities over 100 countries, with well-known brands such as Hillarys, Luxaflex, Tuiss, Blinds2go and Thomas Sanderson within its portfolio across the EMEA division. With reporting lines to the EMEA GC, these roles will be part of our newly formed EMEA Legal team, so you’ll be working across multiple international entities to ensure the highest level of comprehensive legal support across the group.


The roles are completely remote; we are seeking candidates based in the UK or continental Europe, as there is the flexibility to work from any of our European offices if preferred.


As our Legal Counsel, you’ll have a deep understanding of various legal challenges and regulatory requirements within the EMEA region. Experience in commercial contracting is essential for these roles, as you’ll be providing comprehensive legal support across a broad range of commercial matters, including procurement, supply chain, GDPR compliance, and employment law, ensuring all practices are compliant with relevant laws and regulations.


Legal Counsel - Key Responsibilities:

General Legal Support:

  • Advise the GC on M&A and corporate and business strategies, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations (including antitrust), and identifying legal risks and solutions.
  • Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and best practices to optimize efficiency.
  • Manage disputes and litigation, working closely with external counsel as necessary.
  • Keep abreast of, and advise on, relevant laws and regulations affecting the company.


Beneficial additional experiences

Commercial Contracts and Procurement:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts including supplier agreements, sales agreements, service agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Provide expert legal advice and support on procurement and supply chain matters, ensuring compliance with company policies and risk tolerance.
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to identify legal risks and opportunities related to procurement strategies and supply chain management.


GDPR and Data Protection:

  • Serve as the legal expert on GDPR and other data protection laws, advising on compliance across all operations, data processing activities, and digital projects.
  • Develop and implement data protection policies and procedures, and conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments.
  • Manage data protection inquiries and complaints, liaising with regulatory authorities as required.


Employment Law:

  • Provide expert legal advice on employment law matters, including drafting employment agreements, managing employee relations issues, advising on labor regulations, and handling disputes or litigation cases as they arise.
  • Conduct legal training sessions for employees on GDPR, data protection, and employment law.

  • A law degree from a recognized university and qualification to practice law in the UK, Germany, French, Switzerland or the Netherlands.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong focus on commercial contracting, procurement, supply chain matters, GDPR/data protection, and employment law.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate complex contracts.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English and German or Dutch or French is essential.
  • Strong understanding of GDPR, data protection laws, and employment legislation within EMEA.
  • Excellent legal analytical skills and the ability to apply legal knowledge in a practical, commercial context.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work on a broad spectrum of tasks and independently solve complex legal problems.
