Deputy Head of Operations - Urgent Care

This role is part of our overarching strategy for urgent care, to ensure our services are fully supported at all levels, enabling growth and development across the board.


Purpose of the Role:

  • Reporting to the Head of Urgent Care, the post holder will assist in the delivery of all urgent care operations, overseeing all operational aspects of the services, ensuring the business objectives are met safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Working closely with members of the senior leadership team and direct line management of service managers, the Deputy Head of Urgent Care will ensure that the urgent care strategy is translated into front line delivery of services which support the achievement of organisational goals, a culture of patient safety and high standards of service delivery.
  • Assists in the promoting and cultivating of effective working relationships with commissioners and other stakeholders.
  • Assists in the development and control of operational budgets to promote profitability and ensure the company has the resources required to meet its objectives within agreed financial parameters.
  • Assists in the evaluation of performance of services by gathering, analysing, and interpreting data, to inform future trends and strategies.
  • Remain up to date with NHSE guidelines and standards and maintain an awareness of competitor activities and developments.
  • To act as interim Service Manager and CQC registered manager in the absence any of the Registered Manager.


General Responsibilities

  • Assist in the safe and effective management of all urgent care and out-of-hour services.
  • Participate and contribute to developing and improving services for patients.
  • Assist the senior leadership team Supporting bids and identifying opportunities for business growth
  • Direct and oversee operations staff to ensure they are motivated and trained to carry out their responsibilities to the required standard.
  • Providing necessary reports
  • Evaluating performance, ensuring that data and information is shared with commissioners in the required timeframes.
  • Assist the Head of Urgent care in the anticipation and forecasting of trends
  • Aware of changes to NHSE guidelines and standards
  • Regular horizon scanning to remain informed of best practice.
  • Assist with system development and innovation
  • Assist in managing finances and budgets and assists with the negotiating of contract values with commissioners.
  • Improving productivity
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to achieve objectives.


There may be other duties required of the post holder relevant to the position and or needs of the service.
