London, UK, United Kingdom Hestia Housing Support Full time

We are Hestia. We make a difference.

At Hestia, we are guided by our core values and are dedicated to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive organisation. We provide a range of services, including Domestic Abuse support, Modern Slavery assistance, Mental Health & Complex Needs care, and Criminal Justice. Our mission is to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and achieve independence.

The service you will work in….

Approved Premises (APs) work with the highest-risk offenders and provide a vital element in public protection arrangements. APs offer a ‘stepping stone' from prison to more mainstream community life with a level of contact, support and supervision that does not exist anywhere else in the probation service. Our Male Approved Premises in Streatham offers 26 single-occupancy rooms for men aged 18+ who have been released from prison and subject to licence conditions in the community.

Residents are seen on a daily basis and staff become involved in the resident's life to a very high degree: giving advice and offering support whilst exercising control and supervision, all the time liaising with the rest of the probation service and a wide range of agencies. This intense level of contact is what enables AP staff to monitor residents' well-being, to tailor support and to be aware of their actions and changes in their behaviour in a way that no other intervention can.

A day in this role looks like….

As an Intervention Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Approved Premises. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • Leading on planning and delivering Rehabilitative Activities in groups and on a 121 basis with residents
  • Effective and timely recording on IT systems
  • Modelling pro-social behaviour and attitudes, helping to create and maintain a positive culture of respect in all work inside and outside of the service with both clients and colleagues
  • Following protocols, encouraging compliance and taking enforcement action as necessary, in particular around drug and alcohol testing requirements and curfews
  • Ensuring that colleagues, multi-agency partners and management are informed and updated of events relating any resident, as necessary
  • Actively monitoring and maintaining the health, safety, security, cleanliness and hygiene of the Approved Premises and the well-being of its occupants utilising information sharing, CCTV, direct observation, inspection, personal contact and other methods, as appropriate
  • Ensuring that all related administration is done in good time; that detailed, concise and accurate records are created contemporaneously, that information is shared appropriately, and that confidentiality is properly maintained
  • Using initiative to identify and deal with additional tasks or issues as they arise and the importance of communication with colleagues and management

Why Hestia?

Joining Hestia means more than just a job; it's an opportunity to be part of something bigger. We offer a supportive, inclusive and resolution driven work environment where your contributions are recognised and valued. As a member of our team, you will have the chance to grow both personally and professionally while making a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

We are looking for candidates who bring a combination of passion, expertise, and dedication to the table. To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults, ideally those with experience of the Criminal Justice System
  • The ability to engage and communicate effectively with others to provide a flexible and responsive approach
  • Being optimistic about the possibility of change and people's capacity to change
  • The ability to learn quickly, gather information and make defensible decisions
  • The capacity to maintain firm boundaries, using authority legitimately whilst working pro-socially and positively with people
  • The ability to receive, process and accurately record detailed information, sharing it with others as appropriate and within the framework of confidentiality
  • An understanding of the emotional and behavioural impact of trauma and the ability to work with people who may be display a range of emotions, behaviours and communication challenges
  • The ability to work as part of a team, leading by example, taking a pragmatic, hands on approach
