A family run business trading for over 25 years, McCrory provides Design & Build Principal Contractor construction services for prestige clients in the Energy, Transport & Utilities Infrastructure sectors in England. UK clients in the last 10 years include Network Rail, Eurotunnel, National Grid and Affinity Water.


Overview of Role

The successful candidate will have Quantity Surveying responsibilities associated with the commercial management and performance of various civil engineering, building, construction, (including MandE) for turnkey building projects for prestigious clients located in southeast England and northern France.


Regular travel to England will be required. The frequency and duration of the stays in England will be negotiable.


Occasional travel to client’s sites in France will also be required. Occasional travel to client’s sites in France will also be required.


Flights to, accommodation and company vehicles in England and France will be provided.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Preparation and support of pricing for tender opportunities.
  • Processing of site measures for periodic valuations for multiple projects.
  • Preparation, review and monitoring of variation claims to client including compensation events under NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
  • Liaising and negotiating with client QS’s, commercial and project managers to ensure valuations claims and compensation events are justly appraised.
  • Monitoring of project budgets and costings.
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly costings and budget reports for Director(s).
  • Review of sub-contractor claims and preparation of payments for approval by Director(s).


Additional & Shared Roles and Responsibilities

  • Liaising with suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Liaising with accounts staff to ensure proposed subcontractor payments are valid.
  • Sourcing and maintenance of pricing from suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Preparation of final account valuations with Director(s) for presentation to client(s).


Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Third Level Education: BA (Hons) in Quantity Surveying.
  • A Level or equivalent in Mathematics (B or higher), 1 x Science (C or higher) and any other A-Level (C or higher).
  • GCSE Level in Mathematics (B or higher), 1 x Science (C or higher), English (B or higher) and any other.
  • Full Clean (3 points or less) UK/EU Driving Licence with exclusive access to own vehicle.
  • Current passport with at least six months to expiry.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role with an interest in infrastructure
  • Experienced in MS Excel, MS Outlook, and the MS Windows file system.
  • Good Health – Network Rail (ML1) Medical may be conducted.
  • Have a good understanding and experience of contemporary professional email communications with a high standard of grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written (email) forms.
  • Experience in the operation of NEC3 & NEC4 contracts.


Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Characteristics

  • CSCS UK H&S Test for Managers & Professionals.
  • CSCS / CSR / NPORS Site Card.
  • High level of attendance and punctuality in school and higher education.
  • Ability to listen, communicate with clarity and always hold attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of MS Project.
  • Strong negotiating skills.

Salary & Package

Negotiable, meeting your expectations and dependant on CV, experience and interview appraisal.


Additional benefits:

  • Up to 28 Days annual holidays (incrementing annually, after 3 consecutive years of service) plus bank holidays.
  • Formal annual minimum 2% salary scale.
  • Formal Christmas Bonus arrangement in the region of 2% - 7% of salary.
  • Overtime available with appropriate uplift to be agreed.
