The Role


An excellent opportunity is offered at our London office for the position of Project Engineer – Smart Buildings and BMS within the Digital team. Key responsibilities include:


  • Gathering requirements from stakeholders, understanding client issues and opportunities, and defining desired outcomes.
  • Developing design and engineering requirements for smart building installations across a wide range of buildings, varying in complexity.
  • Collaborating within the dynamic Digital Buildings team, focusing on Smart Buildings, BMS, ICT, Security, and AV to drive innovation in the building landscape.
  • Coordinating smart building and controls design with other building services disciplines and external parties such as architects or client delivery teams.
  • Delivering Smart Building and MSI design outputs for all design stages, including Technical Reports, Specifications, Network Architectures, Points Schedules, Sequence of Operations, technical drawings, and schematics.
  • Creating technical reports and presentations to convey technical concepts to individuals with varying levels of understanding.
  • Engaging in business-related activities such as business development and fostering industry relationships.
  • Contributing to the development of the Digital and Smart Buildings sector offerings.
  • Collaborating with contractors and manufacturers on a technical level within the digital disciplines like ICT and physical security.
  • Participating in project activities, encompassing design, specification, and documentation.
  • Ensuring the implementation and maintenance of NDY’s Quality System on projects.


Key Challenges:


  • Coordinating mechanical design with other building services disciplines and external stakeholders like architects and structural engineers.
  • Designing significant projects up to RIBA Stage 4A.
  • Preparing reports, specifications, schedules, and calculations.
  • Contributing to broader business activities alongside project-specific duties.
  • Involvement in the development of Mission Critical offerings, emphasizing data centres and laboratories.
  • Engaging in various project activities, including design, documentation, and coordination.
  • Participating in personal and professional development training as required.
  • Involvement in the Performance Management Process and Thrive assessment and development tool.
  • Enhancing Project Coordination skills to align with work opportunities.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, or a minimum of 3 years of industry experience in BMS, controls, or Smart Buildings.
  • Desirable to hold Chartered Engineering status or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of engineering experience in building controls, integration, BMS, Smart Buildings, and IoT technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing specifications, controls software, or commissioning.
  • Hands-on experience with building networks, IP, Serial communications, and protocols like BACnet and Modbus.
