The Costain Aviation Sector is growing at pace with a strong pipeline of opportunities in the South of the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Agent to be part of a high performing team, develop in the role and secure and deliver management services and projects to our aviation clients.

The position will also provide the opportunity to develop experience working in an aviation environment, which will strengthen Costain capability and support future growth into the aviation market.


Job Description/Purpose

The Project Manager / Senior Agent will play a key and hands on role in delivering the day-to-day project management of a project for one of our key clients. They will be involved at the outset of the project and using their previous experience in infrastructure projects and team leadership shape and manage the delivery approach to the project, working client side, supporting the client in the successful delivery.

The Project Manager will be responsible for day-to-day client interaction, leading and liaising with the other team members including commercial, safety health and environment, engineering, permitting / control of works and works supervision during all phases of the project from procurement to close out.

During the development of the project and in future expanding our offer across the aviation account it’s expected that the individual is flexible, willing to ‘roll up their sleeves’ and be hands on to deliver what is needed in the Project Management discipline.

The Project Manager will be self-motivated, disciplined and with good project management attributes with the ability to identify, analyse and develop responses to delivery challenges, whilst understanding commercial, quality, schedule and safety risk and taking ownership and responsibility for resolution.

In addition to discipline knowledge, it’s expected the Project Manager will provide the leadership to develop the team and capability, build trusted relationships with our client and suppliers and achieve continuous improvement of our solution offering leading to repeat work. Excellent

communication and customer facing skills are a must, along with working as part of a team promoting our culture and values.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the formation and subsequent delivery of the project management service; following process and procedure, manage, motivate, coach and mentor the team and drive supplier performance.
  • Support the development of the trusted partner relationships with our clients and suppliers, engaging frequently and working in collaboration to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Support the development of the accounts and securing future pipeline through robust delivery, delivering our commitments, and delighting our customer to growing existing accounts.
  • Lead the implementation of clear, efficient, and integrated processes for project management of projects and services including progress reporting and monitoring.
  • Provide advice and guidance to our clients on all engineering, delivery, supplier, health and safety, logistics and interface management in an advisory capacity.
  • Provide and maintain schedule and cost management and reporting to provide concise, robust and timely information to the senior leadership team and client throughout the project lifecycle.


Other Information

The role will require the candidate to undergo and obtain security vetting and clearance to work at UK airports.

Some hybrid working could be considered, but the expectation is that the candidate would be available to be on site at Gatwick in our client’s office at least 3 day/ week. Some occasional business travel to Costain head office in Maidenhead, Berkshire or London to be expected, along with occasional business travel and meetings at other UK airports or airbases.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Capability (typically associated with ten years’ experience) in engineering and project management of infrastructure type projects, with several years’ experience of working in client facing or internal Senior Leadership Team facing roles for projects around £10m.
  • Demonstrable engineering and project management acumen within the construction industry with demonstrable track record of achievement
  • Experience of working in a fast moving and rapidly changing environment.
  • Sound commercial and contracting awareness. Ideally having good working knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts, and associated contract administration.
  • Good leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, facilitate and create opportunities for learning for others.
  • Knowledge of sub-surface utilities installation strongly desirable with excavation, temporary works and pipeline installation.
  • Experience in the delivery of infrastructure projects in a live operational environment is advantageous.


Qualifications

  • Membership of a professionally recognised project organisation such as ICE or APM desirable
  • Recognised qualification in Project Management such as APMP or Prince2 Practitioner or equivalent is advantageous.
