Legal & General are currently looking for a Senior Network Consultant to play a crucial role in supporting the architecture, transformation, and operations teams to evolve the L&G network provision on its journey to a self-serving orchestrated network provision.

For the right candidate, we can offer £800+ p/d inside of IR35 (plus 17.3% Umbrella uplift) to join L&G on an initial 26-week contract, with a view to extend, subject to performance and business requirements. Based out of the L&G offices in London and Hove, you will work on a hybrid basis, attending the offices 1-2 days per week.

Reporting into the Head of Infrastructure Engineering, you will bring together best thinking and practice from the technology industry and applying it to the needs and strategy of the Businesses. The direction of travel is from traditional network technologies to self-service network automation.

You will advise and collaborate with the architects, transformation teams and operations in their journey to adopt and mature delivery to the business - and ensure the development of the technical engineering capabilities necessary to deliver and maintain the required products.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategy Accountability - Support the definition and evolution of a Network Automation strategy and align to the wider technology roadmaps, and industry standard best practices to ensure our network and voice products & practices are enablers to the wider business strategic goals.
  2. Operational Management & Governance - Support the current Head of network and voice manager during operations to ensure the network and voice products are reliable, accessible, and compliant to the business Technology & InfoSec Risk Management frameworks.
  3. Ways of Working - contribute alongside the head of network and voice to build organisational consistency of agile ways of working supporting a common orchestration pipeline so that complexity is reduced, enabling enterprise efficiency, scalability, and sustainability. Work with transformation teams to embed an agile mindset and methodology, embedding a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement across the network and voice engineering community, promoting the reduction of hand-offs and automation to increase velocity and quality.
  4. Industry Trends - Have visibility of emerging network and voice engineering trends and assess them to determine suitability and alignment within the business so we continually innovate our products, ensuring our roadmaps incorporate the adoption of suitable emerging trends.

  • Work within a transformational landscape supporting a mix of legacy and leading-edge technologies.
  • Deliver a network capable of supporting a cloud/product led operating model.
  • Create a self-serving data and voice network operating model.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to build and maintain network infrastructure to meet current and future business needs.
  • Review all 3rd party supplier agreements covering network and voice data services.
  • Lead network projects and provide support to the Infrastructure and Network architects including 3rd parties.
  • Stay informed of developments in network infrastructure and technologies.
  • Stabilise the network environment by reviewing system configuration, architecture, and standards.
  • Maximise network performance with the use of monitoring tools and provide consultative support to the Network engineering manager and team.
  • Optimise network security, as well as document network installation and maintenance processes.
  • Work with security teams in a highly regulatory environment.
  • Work in a ITSM environment supporting incident, change and problem activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, risk and audit activities covering network and data services, with a good understanding of the below:
    • Core Wan and Lan networking technologies - Cisco, Juniper.
    • Network automation and orchestration methodologies.
    • Azure and AWS Cloud networking.
    • Firewalls and Advanced Threat Protection - Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Firepower, Azure Native, AWS native.
    • Load Balancers - F5, Azure, AWS.
    • Wireless technologies - Juniper Mist, Cisco.
    • SD-WAN/SASE/SSE.
    • Infrastructure As Code (Terraform).
    • Zscaler (ZIA and ZPA).
    • Equinix ECX.
