Job Description & Key Responsibilities

Balbec Capital Ltd is looking for someone to join our Financial Control team as a Finance Manager to manage the accounting and administration of a number of limited companies and SPVs operated by Balbec. This role reports to the Regional Controller for Europe. The investing structure of Balbec is in the process of changing so this is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to build high-class processes and controls. The Finance team is small and – dependent on ability - there is scope for exposure to many parts of the business and the successful applicant will be keen to take responsibility quickly and get involved in many aspects of the team’s activities. A motivated and pro-active candidate would be able to generate valuable and diverse experiences in this role.


Responsibilities include:

  • General accounting and bookkeeping tasks, including multi-currency transaction processing for general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Assist with financial and managerial reporting, audits, legal and tax compliance, and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Proficient use of accounting software and expense tracking systems.
  • Interface with accounting firms throughout Europe
  • Track foreign and domestic tax reporting deadlines
  • Assist with multi-currency transaction processing and reporting
  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Summarize and communicate financial information.
  • Assist with monthly general ledger close for several entities, and issue timely financial statements.
  • Substantiate financial transactions by maintaining clear documentation.
  • Maintain financial security by following and developing best practices for accounting and system controls.
  • Reconcile accounts.
  • Prepare and input accounts payable transactions and process vendor payments. This includes verification of proper approvals and documentation.
  • Track and properly classify reimbursable costs.
  • Accounting procedures may require research and interpretation of accounting policy and regulations.
  • Comply with foreign and domestic legal requirements.
  • Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing accounting information.
  • Special projects and various administrative tasks.
  • Assist with administration of employee benefits for our European operations.
  • Assist with risk management and insurance matters.
  • Ability to understand a complex legal structure, including the management company and the funds that we manage.



Qualifications & Experience

This role will appeal to individuals who are self-motivated, organized and who enjoy creating & maintaining high-quality processes and outputs with visible results. The successful candidate will be ambitious and keen to take on a high level of responsibility immediately and will have a right-first-time attitude to work. This role contains information that is highly-sensitive; therefore it is essential that the candidate is highly tuned to keeping confidential data secure. The successful candidate will be a part or newly qualified accountant, probably with some PQE. Experience of Fund accounting/administration and/or Private Equity would be an advantage.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent college education
  • 3-5 years relevant job experience
  • Part or Newly Qualified in ACCA, ACA or CIMA
  • Experience with online banking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Deadline oriented
  • Well organized
  • Trustworthy with a deep sense of integrity and the need for confidentiality.
  • Work well independently and with the team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, email, etc.)
  • Experience with accounting software: This position will process accounting transactions via remote access to Microsoft Dynamics GP and Xero. This includes data processing and preparation of financial statements.
  • Assist others with expense tracking, including the use of Nexonia software.
  • Ability to work well with systems and technology
  • Experience with multi-entity financial reporting, currency translation, and consolidation
