Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
Overview:
Are you an experienced Nuclear Operations leader looking for a challenging role in the nuclear new build sector? Join our Pre-Operations team at Sizewell C (SZC), where you'll play a crucial part in ensuring the operational readiness of the UK's next nuclear power station.
Role Purpose:
As the Operations Programme Manager, you'll develop and implement strategies to ensure the Pre-Operations ‘Operate the Plant’ Programme meets its goals and is integrated with the broader Pre-Operations Mission. This involves building and leading a dedicated team, aligning with project phases, and representing SZC in key governance forums to ensure safety and operational efficiency is embedded during construction through to the operational phase. You will work from any of our offices in Gloucester, Bristol, London, or Leiston, with regular travel to other SZC and Hinkley Point C (HPC) sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the Operations Strategy, ensuring it aligns with the overall Pre-Operations Strategy and Project priorities, and enables the transition through construction and commissioning, and into operations.
Programme Management: Lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver programme activities safely, on time, and within budget. Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
Collaboration and Improvement: Work closely with counterparts at Hinkley Point C (HPC), Nuclear Operations and Nuclear Services to embed best practices and lessons learned into SZC operations and to meet the needs of the future ‘Fleet’.
Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders within the nuclear fleet and including UK Government, EDF, financial investors, and regulators.
Preparation for Commissioning: Oversee and support the development and integration of Commissioning and operational documents, staffing strategies, training programs, and the establishment of safe systems of work for commissioning and operations.
Governance: Represent the operator in project governance forums, ensuring long-term operational needs are prioritized in design and development decisions.
Operational Excellence: Support the definition of the future operating model and develop systems, processes, and tools to ensure effective operations, and act as a champion for nuclear, environmental, and industrial safety and security.
Team Building: Recruit, train, and develop the Control Room and Operate Technician teams, growing the operational team to approximately 174 members.

Sizewell C Limited (Sizewell C) is nuclear site licensed company whose business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Sizewell C was formerly under the majority ownership of the EDF Group but is currently majority owned by HM Government and operates as an independent company. EDF remains a key shareholder in Sizewell C and the business therefore maintains close links to EDF as a part of its ‘nuclear family’.
As a Sizewell C employee, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email, or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group.
