About the Company:

The Senior Estimator’s role is to lead estimates for Civil Engineering works in accordance with Company estimating systems and procedures, working with other members of tender teams to develop customer solutions and secure sufficient work by value and type to meet the Company’s objectives.


About the Role:

Main Duties and Responsibilities:



  • To receive and review tender documents and understand their requirements.
  • Review and evaluate at a high-level Contract Requirements.
  • To produce Bills of Quantities from tender documents, as well as working with prepared BoQ’s from Clients.
  • To prepare sub-contractor enquiries and then collate their return whilst ensuring their compliance with the contract and specifications.
  • To prepare material requirements for the tender such that the procurement department can obtain quotes for the tender.
  • Be responsible for the proposed resourcing and costing of tenders.
  • Lead and manage the tender process including all internal stage meetings with other business departments.
  • Attend and lead mid-tender and post-tender client interviews, presentations and meetings.
  • To ensure safe delivery of the tender on date of submission.
  • Identify opportunity and risk during the tender process.
  • Assess and adhere to all risk assessments and health and safety requirements.
  • Manage the process of assessing, preparing, validating, adjudication, and final submission of tenders. This includes minimising subcontractor and material costs, communicating with design, planning, commercial and bid management functions.
  • Estimate costs in order to meet or exceed customer requirements, including obtaining and negotiating quotes.
  • Build and retain commercial relationships with customers, consultants, contractors, suppliers and subcontractors during the tender and fulfilment process.
  • Developing a tender win strategy alongside the business unit teams.


Qualifications:

  • Degree/HNC/HND qualification in construction/civil engineering.
  • 7-10 years related estimating experience.
  • Be able to demonstrate ability to estimate from first principles.
  • Be able to demonstrate a knowledge of current construction methods and associated production outputs.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Numerate and IT literate, familiar with estimating software and Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of popular forms of contract (NEC, ICC, JCT, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal structure while exercising great judgement.
  • Strong ability to multitask, prioritise, and work under pressure to meet established deadlines.
  • Demonstration of a proactive work ethic.
  • Ability to be flexible and evolve due to the ever-changing nature of the construction industry.
  • Team player, sharing best practice, while also having the ability to make own decisions in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability and confidence to constructively challenge.
  • Passion and pride in delivering the best value.
