Introduction

The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and staff when away from the Estate. Its purpose is to keep Parliament safe and open for business.

PSD sets security strategy provides expert advice and delivers an operational service. It does this in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and by working closely with the Parliamentary Estates Teams, Serjeant at Arms and Black Rod's office, Restoration & Renewal teams, the Parliamentary Digital Service, and other key stakeholders.

The Role

The Security Information and Risk Analysis Service (SIRAS) is a team which collects information to build a strategic understanding of risks and threats to MPs and Parliament to inform how tactical and strategic security measures should be developed and deployed. The team uses knowledge of threats to manage a Joint Parliamentary Risk Assessment (JoPRA) process, run in partnership with the Police and Home Office. It also undertakes open-source research to identify potential threats to MPs and Parliament, conducts digital footprint analyses for MPs to help them manage their online exposure, and collates, analyses and presents management information to derive insight which can inform PSD and the Police's approach to keeping MPs safe.

The post holder will report to the Head of SIRAS and lead the Information and Insight aspects of SIRAS' work, with direct management of staff focused on information collection, open-source research and digital footprint analysis, as well as providing management resilience and support for the risk assessment side of the business.

The post holder will be responsible for managing two staff directly, and a further three in the wider team.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Managing and developing staff within the Collection Team; providing direct line management for two staff and guidance for the three other staff, and helping team members feel supported, able to develop through mentoring and training, and give their best to their work.
  • Using their knowledge and experience of personal and physical security, advise SIRAS staff on how to manage queries about MPs' security and appropriately respond to security incidents which have affected MPs.
  • Building and managing collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external partners to ensure all relevant information pertaining to MP and wider Parliamentary security is gathered, handled, stored and shared according to relevant processes and in timely, effective and compliant manner.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Sound judgement and decision-making skills coupled with experience of managing physical or personal security-related issues.
  • Ability to judge how to respond to incoming threat information appropriately and in a timely manner, to ensure risks to Parliamentary security are managed and mitigated.
