Job Title: Degree Apprentice Digital and Technology Solutions Software Engineer

Location: Portsmouth

What you will be doing:

As a degree apprentice working within Maritime Services, you will provide technology enabled solutions to internal and/or external customers, in a range of areas including data and business analytics, software engineering, network infrastructure and cyber security.

During this four-year Degree Apprenticeship you will be supported to develop, install, configure, test and maintain our systems ensuring the highest level of quality and service. Alongside this, you will study for a degree that will enhance your knowledge skills and behaviours around the technologies used within your placements. Our Level 6 Software apprenticeship scheme offers you the opportunity to work in a number of different teams developing your technical software skills and gaining a Digital Technology Solutions Integrated Degree Apprenticeship, specialising in software.

Specific activities could include:

Our employees are encouraged to be innovative and collaborative and are trusted to provided solutions to stakeholders and customers. Specific activities could include:
• Writing quality code for plugins, and to implement new features on test harnesses.
• Assisting with the creation of deployment guide documents for the systems
• Factory acceptance testing of software systems
• Equipment setup for development and deployment
• Research into software solutions that could be used for projects
• Agile development process using Jira to progress through projects
• On ship deployment of software systems for real life use

What Qualification will you get?

By the end of the apprenticeship you will obtain:
• BSc (Honours) in Digital and Technology Solutions, with a specialism in Software Engineering.
• At the end of the apprenticeship you will obtain a nationally recognised Apprenticeship Completion Certificate

Our highly skilled teams design, develop, support and maintain a wide range of complex equipment. This includes Spearfish, one of the most powerful and capable wire guided torpedoes on the market. Currently undergoing a major upgrade programme, Spearfish will soon benefit from further sophisticated advances in its homing, warheads, tactical and fuelling systems, as well an upgraded guidance link. Then there’s Artisan, the 3D radar that can identify a target the size of a tennis ball, travelling at a speed of more than 2000 miles an hour more than 25 kilometres away

Export Control / Security:

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

5 GCSE A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent) Including Maths & English

A minimum of 96 UCAS points (240 point old system), through achievement of 3 A-levels at grade C or above including Maths, Science or a technical subject or equivalent (excluding UCAS points gained at AS level)
