Sopra Steria Aerospace, Defence and National Security is growing. We are building a team to address a new contract and new challenges. In the current climate, the opportunity to work improving services for the Armed Forces has never been more important or relevant. We will be running and transforming a service to ensure that it meets the demands and flexibility for the current environment - requiring innovation, creativity and a collaborative way of working with our customer.

This is an office-based role, 5 days per week in either our Bristol or Newcastle locations.

What you will be doing:
  • Design, implement, and maintain database systems in both Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database architecture.
  • Review, implement and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with MOD and industry standards.
  • Managing and monitoring database security, access controls and backups to safeguard data.
  • Provide guidance for the installation, configuration, and optimisation of server hardware, storage, and software to ensure performance and availability is aligned with and meets operational agreements.
  • Manage database systems to ensure capacity, availability, and integrity requirements are aligned and meet with operational and service demand.
  • Planning and executing database upgrades, patches and migrations.
  • Manage database system availability across multiple data centres.

What you will bring:
  • Experience of leading technical teams to complete project tasks.
  • Extensive experience in database systems management.
  • Expert knowledge using the following technologies: Oracle DBA, Microsoft SQL Server, High Availability (Always-on and DataGuard), Capacity, Backup and DR management.
  • Knowledge of database system security features and best practices.
  • Exposure to managing database systems availability across multiple data centres.
  • Strong T-SQL and PL/SQL programming skills for writing and optimising database queries and procedures for data manipulation and retrieval.
  • Proficient in creating both high and low-level documentation detailing system

It would be great if you had:
  • Experience of working in complex MOD secure environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server and Redhat Linux Operating system.
  • Accreditation to technical level or equivalent experience essential, and accreditation in another technology area preferred.

Salary: up to £69,500 basic
Benefits: £5400 Car Allowance, 25 days annual leave with the option to buy additional days, Private Medical Insurance, Life Assurance, Pension, and 3% (of basic salary) flexible benefits fund.
