Capgemini’s Product and Systems Engineering Unit provides System Functional Safety Engineering and Software Assurance expertise to help our internal and external clients develop and deliver safety-critical systems to meet today’s increasingly challenging regulatory needs. Our work is essential in delivering demonstrable safety that satisfies industry regulators and acceptance authorities. We are looking for System Safety Engineers to support a number of projects and grow our business.


Current projects that we support include;

  • A system and software development project at a Nuclear facility
  • Three large ATC software development projects
  • Development and legislation of AI based remote inspection, maintenance and repair vehicles for railway infrastructure maintenance
  • Development of a torpedo safety electronic unit
  • System integration and software development for a submarine command and control subsystem
  • Niche safety engineering consultancy for new and novel systems

Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.


Your Role


So, what are we looking for?


  • Engineering Degree and be an experienced Safety Engineering Professional with knowledge of system and software safety standards such as BS EN 61508, RTCA-DO-178 A/B/C, BS EN 26262, Def Stan 00-55, Def Stan 00-66, BS EN 50128 and the wider safety engineering standards and environments within which they operate.
  • Experience working on high SIL/DAL projects producing documentation demonstrating compliance to these standards and have the confidence and ability to be able to adapt your experience to new domains.
  • Skilled in hazard identification and analysis techniques such as Functional Failure Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis and SIL determination.
  • SC Cleared or eligible, and willing to undergo application to DV to enable access to the full site of Customers Information.
  • Capable of performing reviews of Project artefacts developed as part of a unique Business Transformation project for a UK based Nuclear Engineering manufacturer. The project consists of several transformation initiatives, including hardware and software integration, being delivered to the Customer.
  • Responsible for arranging, attending, recording and actioning the outcomes of Project Safety reviews.
  • The Consultant will be expected to engage with their opposite Customer’s representative, nurture a professional and respectful relationship, and offer additional support where there is an identified requirement; the nature of the additional support will be agreed with the Project Manager and the Capgemini Staff Manager in accordance with the Company project resourcing process.
  • The Consultant will support the UK business in the undertaking and management of Safety Critical Risk Assessments (SCRA) related to client related Statements of Work (SoW) to ensure all risks to the Company are managed in accordance with the Company’s Projects Safety Management System (PSMS).
  • Candidates will be working towards or be a Chartered Engineer appointed by the Engineering Council and a UK national capable of gaining SC clearance.

Your Security Clearance


Developed Vetting (DV)​

To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. ​

To obtain DV clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 10 years, along with other very detailed criteria and requirements. ​

Throughout the recruitment process, you will be asked questions about your security clearance eligibility such as, but not limited to, country of residence and nationality.​

Some posts are restricted to sole UK Nationals for security reasons; therefore, you may be asked about your citizenship in the application process.
