The business boasts un-rivalled manufacturing capability based in Barnoldswick Lancashire, with a rich history of delivering high quality, innovative products across multiple customer channels serving both the retail and hospitality sectors.

The business manufactures mattresses, divans, upholstered bed frames and headboards from the Barnoldswick site and offers a broad range of top of bed products. This wide portfolio enables Silentnight to offer a complete sleep solution to their commercial retail partners that are enjoyed by consumers nationwide.

We're looking for a Head of Insight to join the team. Based in the North West of England, you'll work on a hybrid basis between home and our Head Office in Barnoldswick, Lancashire and our Manchester Office.


Main Purpose:

This role will design and develop SNG’s Insight capability by providing actionable insights, dashboards and reporting techniques. You will be responsible for managing a small team who will look after the Data Management and be instrumental in driving the transformation of behaviours to develop a data driven culture. The successful applicant will coordinate the day-to-day data and business insight activities along with managing a range of exciting data projects and initiatives.

This role will work closely with our business functions to deliver insight and recommendations to drive efficiency and improve performance. The role will be the key point of contact for the team and be responsible for scheduling, coordinating and prioritising work.

This is very much a hands-on role. The view is to develop and exploit the existing Data Warehouse (on MS Azure) to provide maximum business impact.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Build, lead and mentor the Data team (2 individuals)
  • Manage any relevant external vendors
  • Prioritise and co-ordinate the team workload
  • Provide project management to data related initiatives
  • Foster a data driven culture and champion the importance and utility of data and analytics within the business
  • Actively engage with key stakeholders across the business and create great working relationships

· Own the Business lexicon and definitions of metrics

  • Provide insightful reports to the Executive team
  • Create impactful dashboards to help inform / set strategy and predict trends
  • Ensure key information is identified and exploited to deliver business insights

· Understand, audit and monitor data from various sources


Key Deliverables:

  • High level strategic plan of work for the data team
  • Accurate, reliable and timely data feeds from existing systems
  • Standardised set of easy to understand and readily navigable dashboards and reports
  • Business lexicon containing agreed definitions of metrics
  • Produce, analyse and inform on data relating to various business functions, including operational, commercial and financial
  • Focus on insights that maximise business impact versus providing insights for the sake of it
  • Make recommendations that lead to change & support production of Objectives & Key Results


Key competencies:

  • Experience in managing and mentoring a data team
  • End to end knowledge of data warehouse and reporting processes
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements in a controlled manner
  • Numerate & analytical with knowledge of data management, PowerBI, Excel
  • Proficient in Microsoft SQL, Python, R or similar
  • Proven experience in topics like customer segmentation, CLTV, propensity modelling, next best actions, recommendations, price analysis
  • Experience in Azure Data Factory, SSIS or similar ETL tools is advantageous

· Knowledge of statistical methodologies and data analysis techniques

  • Passionate about data analytics
  • Technically self-sufficient with a desire and ability to research and pick up new tools and techniques quickly
  • Ability to visualise data effectively and communicate findings and recommendations clearly
  • Competent in the use of cloud-based data warehouse platforms e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP
  • Experience of data management – data quality, governance, engineering and architecture
