Our client, a highly regarded UK firm, is looking for a Commercial Sports Lawyer with 2-4 years’ PQE to join the Sport, Media & Entertainment Group in London.


This is a unique opportunity to work alongside Partners and senior lawyers who are ranked as experts by the independent legal directories, who specialise in commercial and regulatory matters in the sport and entertainment industry. Clients include clubs and teams from a variety of sports (including Premier League football clubs and professional motorsport teams), as well as professional athletes from a multitude of sports, with a particular focus on footballers, professional motorsport drivers and cricketers. Lawyers also advise several leading global brands on their sports sponsorship and marketing arrangements.


Candidates are expected to have an enthusiasm for sports law and all aspects of the industry and will need to have some experience in the sports sector. The successful candidate will have the ability to provide accurate legal advice and develop thorough knowledge of this specialist area. Candidates must be outgoing, confident, technically strong and ambitious. The desired candidate will be able to provide legal advice in a pragmatic and commercial manner and to foster and maintain good client relations, as well as nurture new clients.


Whilst the role will largely involve work on sports related matters, there will also be opportunities across the wider entertainment industry.


Work across the group is varied, but is likely to include advising on the following:

  • Player contracts and transfers.
  • Image rights matters.
  • Athlete representation agreements.
  • Athlete endorsement contracts.
  • Sponsorship of all kinds across all sports, in particular brand sponsorship of major sports events and clubs and teams.
  • Event staging arrangements including participation, promoter, event management and venue agreements.
  • Broadcasting and the exploitation of sports rights across all media including digital media.
  • Licensing and merchandising, and the exploitation of intellectual property rights.
  • Sports regulatory issues and disputes including advising on disciplinary matters.
  • Interactive entertainment and new technologies.
  • Esports.
