ROLE OVERVIEW //

This is a new role that will establish and lead effective and holistic data governance for the firm. It will identify, assess and articulate existing and emergent risks and issues in relation to the firm’s capture, creation, use, management, retention and disposal of electronic data; and define and implement an effective data governance framework to mitigate them and ensure regulatory compliance. The role will be ‘hands on’, utilising data governance tools owned by the firm, and piloting, selecting, acquiring and adapting any new tools that might be required.

This is a multifaceted role, requiring proven experience of establishing data governance in a professional services organisation (e.g. development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures), and hand-on experience in implementing and utilising relevant data governance technology from day to day.

The role sits in the Information Security & Privacy team, reporting to the Information Security Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //

  • Identify and assess the as-is state of data governance within the firm, and associated risks, issues, costs and opportunities.
  • Define and implement a risk-based and proportionate to-be data governance framework, firmwide.
  • Define the target operating model for data governance within the firm, e.g. roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop, socialise, implement and embed new data governance policies and procedures.
  • Drive related changes in operational culture and ways of working.
  • Propose and agree measures for monitoring the effectiveness of data governance within the firm, leveraging relevant technologies to report on progress, risks and issues to senior leadership.
  • Establish and lead cross-functional working groups to identify and resolve data governance issues.
  • Help stakeholders understand and realise the benefits of governing and managing data effectively, e.g. by delivering training and workshops to promote data governance awareness across the firm.
  • Improve compliance with applicable legislation and regulations (both national and international).
  • Identify any gaps or shortcomings in the firm’s data management technology and embed appropriate solutions where required.
  • Work closely with the broader Information Security & Privacy and Compliance teams to ensure alignment on information security, data privacy and governance.

CANDIDATE PROFILE //

  • A proven track record of delivering and embedding data governance frameworks in professional services organisations.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in a similar role, having prior exposure to data governance best practices, including regulatory requirements.
  • Understands, and is able to explain, how data governance needs to evolve to enable the safe adoption of emerging technologies such as Generative AI.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills at a senior level, able to persuade stakeholders of the need for good data governance and what is required to embed it successfully.
  • Strong written communication skills, able to present information clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Able to deal with ambiguity and competing priorities, with a high degree of initiative and autonomy.
  • The ability to identify creative solutions to overcome challenges.
