The Product Manager will assist the Business Line Manager in driving profitable growth for their Variable Flow, NABIC and Connected Solutions product portfolios through the effective management of existing and proposed new products to support the strategic and operational objectives of the business This will involve the creation, implementation and monitoring of product strategies and plans in order to achieve sales and profit targets.


The main duties of the Product Manager are to lead product management in 3 key areas of the business, namely, New Product Introduction using the Crane NPD process, management of existing product ranges and value engineering opportunities for existing products.


Responsibilities include:

  • Become totally familiar with the NPD Process and will be expected to work closely and develop relationships with all departments to drive and manage all aspects of New Product development.
  • Own the completion of stage gate documentation.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and monthly meetings and/or in lieu of the BLM.
  • Create a detailed Product Definition Specification (PDS) that includes a technical specification, target pricing and sales forecast based on competitor analysis and market research.
  • Produce project plans and launch plans liaising with the Marketing Communications department for each project and ensure that all Technical, Sales, and Support literature is in place to launch the product successfully.
  • Ensure USPs, product benefits and value to customer, by segment, are clearly communicated via all documentation.
  • Manage existing product range strategies and plans to deliver planned market share/volume/margin expectations and will be expected to monitor and analyse product range performance against sales and SP% targets to identify variances and take quick corrective action.
  • Undertake competitor benchmarking to monitor competitor marketing and pricing activities and develop counter strategies.
  • Develop, communicate and manage a long term product roadmap and product lifecycles
  • Articulate long term vision, whilst breaking it down into achievable projects for the business to deliver.
  • To monitor market, competitor and industry trends and implement actions to take account of market opportunities or threats.
  • Understand market drivers, unique selling points (USP’s), positioning and differentiation.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and scoping the project.
  • Provision of full technical product specification for each product / range.
  • Provision of target cost analysis for each product.
  • Manage large, complex and strategic projects.


The successful candidate will also have 3-5 years’ product management experience, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform well under pressure. The ability to use your initiative to fulfil the role requirements and proactively address improvement opportunities is key.
