A leading defence systems company are looking for a Commercial Officer to join their team, offering proactive commercial support in business strategy, customer liaison, bid winning, and contract delivery. This role is perfect for someone with a strong commercial background who can work collaboratively across various functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Business Development in creating commercial proposals and business-winning activities.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and commercial proposals for various customers.
- Ensure compliance with business and governance procedures during costing, bidding, and contract processing.
- Negotiate and finalize bids and contracts with the support of the Commercial Manager.
- Manage customer purchase orders and contracts, ensuring all documentation is approved in line with delegated authorities.
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements and ensure compliance with export control requirements.
- Maintain good customer relationships and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
- Manage workload within an assigned portfolio, addressing any conflicts or priorities.
- Provide support to meetings and maintain Commercial Management Plans relevant to the portfolio.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree level education or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
- Proven experience in a commercial role, preferably within similar contracting environments.
- Resilience and tenacity, especially during high-intensity bid activities.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to look beyond immediate tasks.
- Understanding or willingness to learn UK and US export control regulations and contract terms.
- Excellent numeracy and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, intermediate Excel skills, and ERP platforms (Syteline preferred).
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask against tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to support the Commercial Team as needed.
- Ability to obtain UK SC and/or Known Consignor clearance if required.
