The team: Catastrophe Analytics


The Catastrophe Analytics team, embedded into the broking unit, assists clients in analysing the risk to their business from all aspects of natural perils and catastrophic events.


The role: Catastrophe Analyst


  • The position is for a catastrophe analyst, based in London or Milan, to join the EMEA Catastrophe Analytics team.
  • Working as an analyst within the Catastrophe Analytics team in the EMEA region (covering Europe, Middle East and Africa), you will work particularly on the Italy/Iberia region, supporting on tenders and public-private opportunities, cat modelling projects, renewal modelling for reinsurance placements and bespoke analytics projects.
  • You will be working very closely with other catastrophe analysts, actuaries and brokers to analyse the risk to our clients’ business from all aspects of natural perils and catastrophes.


The successful candidate will:


  • Contribute to renewal modelling projects on local and global accounts and develop & deploy service offering to clients, alongside our research teams and external academic partners.
  • Quantify the catastrophe risk to Gallagher Re client portfolios using vendor catastrophe models and Gallagher Re proprietary models. This will involve ensuring data accuracy and reliability through rigorous auditing and cleansing data processes, conducting in-depth analysis of modelled output and providing high quality reports to explain the portfolio catastrophe risk to cedants and reinsurance markets.
  • Engage with clients, reinsurers, brokers & actuaries on topics including model interpretation, portfolio management and bespoke analytical projects.
  • Contribute to Gallagher Re’s wider Catastrophe Analytics services, collaborating with other business units on wider projects, as part of our agile team.
  • Understand and evaluate the impact of updates and revisions to models and the outputs produced.
  • Assist in providing a strong VoR View of Risk to markets and insurers.
  • Contribute to reporting and analysis of natural disasters to support clients post-event. This includes providing real-time reporting and conducting in-depth analysis of natural disasters, while supporting clients in the aftermath of such events.
  • Work with colleagues in a variety of locations, including across Europe and our analytics hub in Mumbai.


The requirements:


The successful candidate should have:


  • Strong English and Italian communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills, including working knowledge of programming languages and mapping software such as SQL, R, Python, ArcGIS, QGIS
  • A degree in numerate or hazard-related subjects
  • Proven experience in the (re)insurance market and in catastrophe risk analysis using at least one of the main vendor models RMS and Verisk (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of (re)insurance business including understanding reinsurance structures and their application
  • Ability to be client facing and lead our analytics relationship with clients.
  • Strong presentation building skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
