Goonhilly (GES) is a pioneering commercial satellite and space communications company, working at the forefront of the UK’s growing space sector. We are a rapidly expanding business with assets in the UK, and USA.
As the trusted ground station of choice for many of the world’s satellite operators, Goonhilly offers a range of satellite communication services including uplink and broadcast, gateway operations, TT&C, carrier monitoring, and more. Since 2019, the company has also expanded its services to the Moon and beyond – providing lunar and deep-space communications links to spacecraft operated by international agencies and private enterprises.
We are currently seeking a Financial Controller to develop and strengthen the finance function in line with our future growth ambitions.
The opportunity
- Responsible for the day-to-day financial operations.
- Manage the company’s financial planning and oversee all financial reporting. Review, summarise and present financial reports.
- Oversee all transactions and processing systems and implement operational best practices.
- Assist in formulating the company’s strategy and supporting tactical initiatives.
- Provide leadership, direction, and management of the finance team (including outsourced processes)
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and teams within the business, supporting Commercial teams with input on costs and margins for proposals and Operations in budgeting and reporting for (Capex) projects.
- Ensure effective internal controls are in place and in compliance with reporting standards and applicable regulatory legislation for financial and tax reporting.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with external partners (bank, auditors, payroll, accounting etc) and other stakeholders.
- Responsible for risk management and mitigation, including evaluating insurance options and choosing suitable ones for the company.
- Oversee financial due diligence process of acquisitions.
Key skills required
- Qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent).
- Degree, or relevant professional qualifications, or equivalent ability demonstrated through experience.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate financial law, accounting standards and risk management practices.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software.
- Proven experience of financial forecasting
- An analytical mindset and comfort working with numbers.
- The ability to accept and provide feedback, be challenged on your advice, and work well under pressure.
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels.
- Fluent level of both spoken and written English.
Desirable:
- Experience in Satellite & Space Communications, Defence or Government sectors
- Proven leadership experience in managing departments and teams.
- Knowledge of XERO
