About the Company
This rapidly growing and modern civil engineering consultancy specializes in planning services, highway engineering, and drainage engineering. The team works closely with clients at all stages of the development process, from preparing outline planning reports, such as flood risk assessments, drainage strategies, and highway feasibility studies, to providing fully detailed highway and drainage adoption packages.
Job Description
As an experienced Civil Engineer or Senior Civil Engineer, you will join a dynamic team involved in highway and drainage projects. The role includes drafting pre-planning reports such as flood risk assessments, drainage strategies, and more. The consultancy offers a fully remote working environment, a strong work/life balance, and 25 days of leave plus public holidays.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a UK consultancy office, specifically in highway and drainage design.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with a technical focus.
- Ability to manage projects of all sizes.
- Capacity to work autonomously and check one's own work as needed.
- Proven experience in leading the preparation of planning reports such as Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies, ensuring project delivery meets client expectations regarding quality, timelines, and budget.
The ideal candidate will be an open-minded team player with a proactive, can-do attitude.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare surface water and sustainable urban drainage strategy reports to support planning applications.
- Prepare flood risk assessment reports compliant with regulations to support planning applications.
- Design private and adoptable drainage systems (under Section 104 of the Water Industry Act 1991) for technical approval and construction.
- Design private and adoptable highway systems (under Sections 38 and 278 of the Highways Act 1980) for technical approval and construction.
- Engage with third-party stakeholders such as the Lead Local Flood Authority, Highway Departments, Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Boards, and Statutory Undertakers to obtain necessary drainage and highway consents and approvals.
- Efficiently undertake AutoCAD and 3D drafting/modeling for highway and drainage projects.
- Attend site and design team meetings as needed to support project progress.
- Obtain third-party quotations, advice, and input as necessary to support project delivery.
- Prepare fee proposals and tenders to secure new work.
- Participate in business development activities to foster and acquire new business relationships.
Qualifications/Software Skills:
- Proficient and highly efficient in the use of AutoCAD.
- Competent in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with Site 3D or Causeway Flow is advantageous.
- Membership in the Institute of Civil Engineers is desirable but not essential.
