Location: Trafford Park, Manchester

Company: LANXESS UK

About the Role

LANXESS UK is seeking a talented Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join our dynamic team at Trafford Park. In this role, you’ll provide expert support for control and instrumentation systems while driving strategic improvements across the site. You’ll manage systems such as PLCs, SCADA, Delta V, Fisher Provox, and Safety Instrumented Systems (HIMA HiMAX) to ensure optimal performance and compliance with industry standards. This is a diverse and hands-on position, combining technical expertise, operational support, and project management.

What You'll Do:

C&I Engineering:

  • Oversee and maintain site control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, Delta V, and SIS (HIMA HiMAX).
  • Design, commission, and manage instrumentation loops and safety documentation (e.g., SIL calculations, LOPA).
  • Provide operations support, including fault finding, process improvements, alarm management, and training.
  • Manage Operational Technology Systems such as OSI Soft PI.

Compliance:

  • Ensure C&I installations comply with regulatory, safety, and engineering standards.
  • Investigate SIS failures and propose corrective actions.
  • Review vendor submittals for technical compliance and oversee control system-related HAZOP actions.

Site Projects:

  • Manage C&I resources for site and global projects, including budgeting and execution.
  • Lead small CAPEX projects, implementing hardware/software modifications and managing change procedures.
  • Support larger projects from FEED studies to commissioning and early operations.

About You:

We’re looking for a highly organized, detail-focused C&I Engineer with a passion for problem-solving and a hands-on approach. You’ll thrive in a role that combines plant-based work with focused project management tasks.

Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering (Control or Instrumentation discipline).
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, ideally on a COMAH site.
  • Experience with Delta V systems is essential; Fisher Provox experience is a bonus.
  • Strong knowledge of C&I regulations (e.g., IEC 61511, ATEX) and engineering standards.
  • Understanding of maintenance processes and computerised maintenance systems.
  • Experience managing maintenance and CAPEX budgets.
  • Knowledge of HSE Legislation and the ability to support site compliance.

Why Join LANXESS?

At LANXESS, you’ll work in a forward-thinking environment committed to sustainability, safety, and innovation. We offer opportunities for career growth, professional development, and the chance to contribute to impactful projects at a global leader in specialty chemicals.
