UK, UK, United Kingdom PFM Executive Search Full time
The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) plans, manages, evaluates, and innovates specialized health services with the BC health authorities to provide equitable and cost-effective health care for people throughout the province. BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre (BCW) and BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) are world-renowned institutions with a number of globally-recognized programs and professionals. BCW is the province’s only facility dedicated to the health of women, newborns and families. It is one of the country’s busiest maternity centres and provides high-risk maternity care, as well as highly-specialized neonatal intensive care. Additionally, more than 50,000 women are seen annually through its specialized women and family programs. BC Children’s Hospital provides expert care for the province’s most seriously ill or injured newborns, children, youth and young adults, and also delivers a diverse range of specialized and one-of-a-kind tertiary mental health and substance use services for children, adolescents and young adults across the province. PHSA’s work is guided by its purpose to inspire and unite specialized teams to create a healthier province for all, as well as its vision to boldly create an equitable, anti-racist, and culturally safe health care system where everyone thrives. PHSA lives by its values and is guided by the Coast Salish Teachings gifted to the organization by Coast Salish Knowledge Keeper Sulksun (Shane Pointe).
Reporting to the Executive Vice-President (EVP), Clinical Service Delivery and the Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs (M&AA), and working in full partnership with the hospitals’ Chief Operating Officers (COOs), the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is jointly accountable for developing, and sustaining an effective integrated campus focused on provincial specialty service for children and women. Specifically, the CMO works collaboratively throughout the provincial health care ecosystem and with BC’s Ministry of Health to develop and drive strategies in support of delivering the highest quality care to children and women in BC. This role holds executive accountability for BC Children’s and BC Women’s health research programs, and champions a highly innovative and intellectual research culture.
The CMO is both a highly regarded clinician as well as a seasoned medical leader who can oversee a broad portfolio and manage a multitude of critical relationships and initiatives. They bring the ability to balance long-term vision with day-to-day operational needs, and bring a deep commitment to patient-centred care, clinician wellness, clinical excellence, and anti-racism. They have a track record of developing and implementing strategies that enhance clinical quality, provider wellness and safety, and patient outcomes by identifying opportunities to collaborate and partner with clinical, academic and research partners. They possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, allowing them to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and in particular will be able to work across a wide variety of disciplines in both the Women’s and Children’s contexts.
The CMO will wholeheartedly partner with others in the organization to ensure Indigenous-specific anti-racism, Indigenous Cultural Safety, and DEI strategic priorities are being actioned, and holds a steadfast commitment to diversity and creating a just system where Indigenous and other voices that have been systemically excluded are platformed and supported to lead change. PHSA is committed to equity in its hiring and employment practices. With learning and compassion, it is addressing existing inequities and barriers throughout its systems. PHSA is seeking to create a diverse workforce and to establish an inclusive and culturally safe environment. It invites applications and enquiries from all people, particularly those belonging to the historically, systemically, and persistently marginalized groups identified under the B.C. Human Rights Code.
The CMO should have experience managing and mentoring medical staff – physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives, and dentists. In addition, they will have a reputation for fostering a culture of continuous learning and promoting evidence-based practices. Current registration with the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons, or eligibility for registration, is required. A Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration or a relevant discipline would be an asset.
The starting salary for this position will be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, experience and clinical expertise, and in alignment with the provincial compensation frameworks for medical leaders. It will also be supplemented by a competitive benefits package.
