Overview
Our client is seeking a highly organised and proactive Transport Co-ordinator to oversee and manage the day-to-day transport operations. Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient movement of goods and resources in line with operational requirements. This role involves coordinating with various departments, including intake, despatch, and production, to maintain seamless transport schedules while ensuring compliance with legal requirements and health and safety standards.
The Transport Co-ordinator will play a key role in ensuring customer satisfaction by maintaining reliable transport schedules, ensuring vehicles are well-maintained, and resolving any logistical challenges that may arise. You will also be responsible for managing driver schedules, ensuring appropriate vehicle use, and maintaining up-to-date records of all transport activities.
Key Responsibilities for the Transport Co-ordinator / Planner
- Work with the Planner to organise farm collections and customer deliveries, adjusting schedules as needed to meet operational demands.
- Ensure timely and safe deliveries, maintaining compliance with safety standards and customer expectations.
- Monitor vehicle maintenance, addressing defects reported by drivers and ensuring regular inspections are carried out.
- Maintain driver records and organise daily schedules, ensuring smooth operations.
- Coordinate with Despatch to ensure accurate loading of goods based on the planner's schedule.
- Brief and debrief drivers at the start and end of each shift, addressing any issues promptly.
- Track driver utilisation and maintain accurate KPI data to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations, and maintain cleanliness and safety of vehicles.
- Manage spreadsheets for maintenance and recharges, keeping clear records for reporting.
- Handle urgent calls outside normal hours to address any logistical issues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required for the Transport Co-ordinator / Planner
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in the transport sector, with experience in transport planning considered advantageous.
- A valid UK driving licence.
- Strong understanding of transport laws and regulations, as well as knowledge of health and safety practices within the transport industry.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle potentially challenging situations with professionalism.
- Flexibility to adapt to business needs, including adjusting working hours when required.
- Proficient in computer systems including spreadsheets, email, and databases.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver clear instructions and reports.
