London UK, UK, United Kingdom Mouro Capital Full time

We’re Mouro Capital, a fintech-specialist VC backing ambitious entrepreneurs who are reshaping the future of money and finance.

We believe fintech has the potential to transform financial services, but it requires a unique type of investor – one who brings deep domain knowledge, hands-on support, industry connections and a passion for genuinely reimagining the future of the sector.

With $400 million in investment commitments and clear prospect to growth those in the very near future, we invest across the fintech landscape in early-to-growth stage start-ups in Europe, North America and Latin America from our offices in London, Madrid and San Francisco. We have backed around 50 portfolio companies, some leading their spaces such as iZettle (acquired by PayPal), Ripple, Socure, Truelayer, Uncapped, Creditas and Upgrade, just to name a few.

The Research Function is a key pillar of Mouro Capital’s thesis-driven investment approach. It is designed to work closely with and as an extension of the Investment Team to achieve critical outcomes in two main areas: (i) internal support for the Mouro team by exploring new thematic areas, sourcing and executing investment opportunities and later supporting the portfolio and (ii) creating content for external distribution.

Your role within the Mouro Capital team

  • Collaborate with the investment team in developing investment thesis and targeted strategies for multiple focus areas within fintech and adjacent sectors. Conduct market research and analyses and leveraging input from industry experts (founders, venture capitalists, executives) to assess market opportunity, customer and user unmet needs, market, and competitive landscape. Outputs will include reports, market maps, competitive landscapes and due diligence-ready materials.
  • Analyze and synthesize complex information to identify strengths and weaknesses of a startup and support the team reach conviction both thematically and with respect to individual opportunities.
  • Maintain general awareness of venture industry and technology market trends, problems and opportunities, and communicate insights effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain existing processes and build new processes to improve productivity around the investment and due diligence processes, communications, and knowledge management
  • Support the team with website updating and publishing as well as with content for our newsletters, both aimed at reaching a larger audience in the wider ecosystem.
  • Other tasks that might arise from time to time - no two days are the same

Must-haves

  • At least 3 years of work experience in reputable consultancy (in-house or advisory) roles with demonstrable track record of producing quality market research, preferably within fintech and/or financial services or general due diligence services teams.
  • Knowledge of and interest in the venture capital industry and start-up ecosystem (the basic jargon of the industry and basic start-up metrics should not be foreign to you)
  • A high degree of intellectual curiosity, with the ability to identify market trends and market opportunities.
  • A well rounded financial, strategy and analytical toolkit – all being equally important for the role
  • Great communication and people skills so you can articulate and communicate effectively. Perfect command of English. Another language is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask across different projects, assignments and time zones.
  • PowerPoint and Excel (simple modelling) mastery.
  • The right to work in the UK.

You’ll thrive if you’re looking for

  • An enthusiastic, passionate and impact-oriented environment where each team member is able to contribute and drive ideas without constraint.
  • A team of fintech enthusiasts, who are passionate about the sector and want to find and support entrepreneurs who are reshaping the industry and our Limited Partner to innovate.
  • A team that values diversity in all its forms and is proud to promote and embrace it in our everyday job and in our ecosystem.
