Our client is a Private Equity backed, leading UK provider of technical and engineering services.


The Group has grown strongly in recent years, both organically and through acquisition, with further plans for accelerated growth. The Group is now seeking to add an M&A Director to their leadership team who will play a pivotal role in achieving their growth plans in the coming years.


The role:

Reporting to the CEO, this individual will identify, screen and execute M&A opportunities for the Group, with the focus on UK based Technical and Engineering services businesses in the UK mid market.


Key responsibilities:

  • Execute a comprehensive M&A strategy aligned with Group's long-term goals and investment thesis.
  • Establish a robust internal M&A capability to support the Group’s growth and expansion goals through strategic acquisition.
  • In partnership with management and the investors, develop and maintain inorganic growth pipeline, harnessing market research, internal experts, and competitive intelligence.
  • Oversee rigorous internal due diligence processes on target companies, liaising with external advisors as appropriate.
  • Lead execution of transactions and manage external relationships including advisors and other third parties.
  • Create detailed financial models and valuation analysis.
  • Lead on the negotiation of the SPA and negotiation of commercial terms with vendors.
  • Create a comprehensive integration plan and support internal PMO teams to oversea integration.


The person:

  • Bachelor’s degree at a top-tier university.
  • Preference for a post degree financial qualification (CFA, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, ACT).
  • Between 7-10 years of experience in M&A, investment banking or corporate development with a proven track record of successfully executing complex transactions.
  • Ideally worked in a PE-backed business either as lead M&A role or supporting the number one, with a preference for experience with industrials/hard services.
  • Analytical Skills: hands on deal execution experience, working with advisors across due diligence work streams, lead on deal structuring, perform detailed financial/valuation analysis and models.
  • Commercial Acumen: strong understanding and ability to navigate the landscape to identify, evaluate and execute successful transactions.
  • Interpersonal Skills: high levels of EQ to navigate the complexities of transaction related dynamics.
  • Adaptability: capacity to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with the flexibility and organizational skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks.
  • Collaboration: able to collaborate in a team, communicate successfully with team members and work to achieve common objective.
