Who You Are

As a Family Help Counsellor, you are a compassionate and qualified professional with a strong background in therapeutic counselling for school-aged children. You hold a recognized qualification in counselling or therapy and are a current member of a relevant professional body. With experience in addressing the mental health needs of children and young people, you have a clear understanding of child protection procedures and a commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals. Your excellent communication skills enable you to engage effectively with diverse client groups, making you adept at creating detailed treatment plans and maintaining accurate records. You are resourceful, adaptable, and dedicated to continuous professional development, with the ability to undertake further training. While experience in an educational setting is desirable, your primary focus remains to support children's attendance and behavior through targeted therapy, ensuring their well-being in partnership with their families.

What the Job Involves

This role focuses on providing targeted therapeutic counselling to school-age children experiencing difficulties with attendance and behavior. You will collaborate with schools to identify and support children needing individual counselling, designing treatment plans based on comprehensive assessments. Your responsibilities include conducting weekly counselling sessions to aid the mental health and emotional regulation of young people, advocating for their needs, and involving families in the therapeutic process. As a member of the Team Around the Family, you will share regular progress updates while adhering to safeguarding protocols. Active participation in team meetings and contributing to the development and evaluation of services are essential aspects of this role. You will also ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, promote equal opportunities, and engage with the City Council's vision and values. Managing resources responsibly and advocating for social value in all activities form a key part of your corporate responsibilities. Additionally, you will work flexibly and leverage information technology effectively in line with performance management requirements to deliver outstanding service.
