GENERAL SUMMARY

The Castings Buyer will will assume full accountability for Procurement and delivery of all Contract related parts, in parallel with full management of the vendor base. The key drivers and focus will be to manage the vendor base to ensure all aspects of OTD, Cost and Quality are maintained. It will also include internal management of key stakeholders.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Proficiency in purchasing raw materials such as bar, sheet, plate, casting, and forgings.
  • Source materials cost-effectively, manage supplier relations, liaise with subcontractors, and oversee timely delivery.
  • Coordinate with management to align procurement strategies with company goals.
  • Execute procurement operations, ensuring quality and cost targets are met.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience as a Buyer within a Casting engineering / advanced manufacturing environment for industries such as Aerospace, Nuclear, MOD, Oil & Gas etc would be beneficial.
  • Proven ability in supplier management, ensuring suppliers are fit for purpose.
  • Worked with foundries (predominantly UK based foundries) to re-confirm identity of patterns held at their respective premises (incl part number identity, condition, no. of pieces, type of pattern etc).
  • Functionally ensuring departmental metrics (weekly and monthly progress reporting) are met and that the programme to complete the exercise remains on time and to schedule.
  • Meeting and/or exceeding Departmental targets such as Annual Savings, OTD vendor performance and any other tracked and measured criteria connected to vendor management / supply chain activity.
  • Visiting major casting suppliers regularly to ensure business milestones are met.


EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Engineering qualification preferably HNC or higher, with strong Engineering background (preferably in the valve or pump industry) is desirable. An understanding of patterns and castings industry is desirable.
  • Ability to read, analyse, and interpret drawings. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure guides and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, other internal departments, suppliers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with internal Departments and suppliers, able to handle enquiries / problem solve in a confident, professional, and competent manner.
