Development Manager

The Development Manager (Pre-FID Focus) is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the development of solar energy projects from inception through to Final Investment Decision (FID). This position requires a strategic thinker with deep industry knowledge, exceptional project management skills, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory, financial, and technical challenges. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving project success by ensuring that all necessary preparatory activities are completed to a high standard, leading to a successful FID.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and implement the strategic vision for solar projects, ensuring alignment with the company's overall renewable energy goals.
- Lead the identification and assessment of potential solar project opportunities, including site selection, resource assessment, and market analysis.
- Oversee the development of comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets that ensure successful progression to FID.
Technical and Financial Oversight:
- Lead technical feasibility studies, ensuring that projects are designed to meet technical, environmental, and economic criteria.
- Oversee the financial modeling and analysis of projects, working closely with the finance team to ensure robust financial planning and risk management.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to develop strategies for sourcing equipment and securing contracts with vendors.
Regulatory and Compliance:
- Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental, zoning, and land use requirements.
- Lead the permitting process, ensuring that all necessary approvals are obtained in a timely manner.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, policy changes, and technological advancements that could impact project development.
Final Investment Decision Preparation:
- Ensure all aspects of project development are completed and documented to meet FID requirements.
- Present project details, risks, and opportunities to the executive team and investors to secure approval for FID.
- Transition projects seamlessly from pre-FID development to the construction phase, ensuring all necessary handovers are completed.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the renewable energy sector, preferably solar.
- Proven track record of leading large-scale solar projects through the development phase to FID.
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex stakeholder relationships.
