Technical Manager

£75-80k plus car allowance and competitive package

Any Technical Manager role in the food industry needs a technical expert who can manage multiple priorities, be a strong member of the senior team, build and develop key relationships across every function and with the customer, lead the technical team and be an ambassador for the business. If you’re reading this, none of the above will be a surprise.

What makes this role stand out? In short, this is a well-established business with a strong reputation in a core product category. Having seen growth from quality, new customers and innovation, this site goes from strength to strength.

What will your days look like as the Technical Manager?

  • The Technical Manager on this site is a member of the Senior Team and as such has a high-profile role in the business.
  • Being involved, in the factory and around the team. Understanding their challenges, quality levels, hygiene management, audit preparation etc on a continual basis.
  • Strong understanding of complex processes and the technical parameters around those to meet the constant deadlines in this fast-paced environment.
  • Communicating and being a visible technical lead, the ‘go to’ on site for Technical.
  • The main point of contact for the retail customers, working in close conjunction with the Technical Director and other senior members of technical across the business.
  • As mentioned above, an in-depth knowledge of BRC is essential to embed the right standards and daily working practices across the factory.
  • Heading up all retailer audits striving for an ‘audit ready’ approach at all times – of course
  • You have credibility and knowledge, and you operate with confidence and integrity to ensure vital internal relationships are built and respect is grown across all operational teams.
  • Constantly striving for improvements, you understand the nuances of the factory and what changes are needed in the short and long term for the strategic agenda and daily when a more reactive response is required.
  • Strategic technical planning for the business.

This is the TM role that leads the site and will suit someone who can work with the retailers and be the ‘face’ of the business, its ambassador and representative as well as being the subject matter expert leading the technical function and being the conduit with all other functions.

You need a strong background in technical management in the food industry with the credibility to make key decisions and work with the Technical Director on wider, strategic projects.

The background you will need to apply for this role are:

  • Significant chilled food manufacturing experience in a technical management role.
  • Able to drive the technical agenda in time driven food manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge within process balancing WIP, quality, food safety and time.
  • Confident in your technical expertise, able to influence at all levels – known as the go to on site.
  • Networked with retail customers, able to build and develop those critical customer relationships.
  • Commercially and financially astute.
  • Decisive, understanding all the issues involved to overcome issues in complex deadline driven food manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable motivational management skills.
  • Evidence of leadership and solid team ethics.
