Role Summary


Newly created due to growth, we are seeking a Senior Underwriter to come and join our North American Casualty division.


Role Accountabilities

  • Reviewing complex submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine the degree of risk for each account.
  • Calculating appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent to the respective sector, reinsurance cessions as well as the Underwriting and general administration costs while ensuring profitability.
  • Contributing to the direction of the North American Casualty portfolio to achieve the business plan targets, act always within the individual authority.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with brokers and clients, developing new business opportunities, and identifying, implementing and managing Coverholder arrangements that are within appetite.
  • Supporting the business planning and forecasting process; monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits; monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
  • Maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
  • Perform tasks according to established procedures, with the ability to exercise discretion.
  • Effectively plan for sales and business development. Integrating the use of various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth over a defined period.
  • Plan, structure, and conduct negotiations with brokers and/or clients to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
  • Visualise, gather information, articulate, analyse and solve complex problems to make key business decisions.
  • Build excellent interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients and colleagues to improve personal profile and reputation within Rokstone and the broader market.
  • Make underwriting decisions to fulfil business strategic plans and deliver results.


Role Requirements

  • Over 5 years of Underwriting experience in North American Casualty.
  • Excellent knowledge of North American Casualty underwriting principles and practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in the insurance industry.
  • Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications or other relevant qualifications are a plus.
