We have an exciting opportunity for a Research and Development Dye Chemist to join our company. The role would be to support the CTO, providing expertise in dye formulation and applications development. You will also work with the CEO to design realistic working and research schedules to align with grant and funding priorities.


Qualifications & Key Skills:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Chemistry (or a related field),
  • Strong interest in field of sustainable colour research and development,
  • Experience developing innovative commercial products / formulations,
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety protocols in a laboratory setting,
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills,
  • Strong attention to detail,
  • Understanding and knowledge of Textile Dye Manufacturing,
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced start-up environment,
  • Computer literate in programmes such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel,
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team,
  • Confidence to analyse reports and present to an internal team of co-workers.


Desired Skills (but not required):

  • Familiarity with dye manufacturing and applications in cosmetics, paints, and inks is ideal but not necessary,
  • PHD in Chemistry (or related field)
  • Experience in IP documentation processes and compliance, and successful patent filing,
  • Proven experience in managing a laboratory,
  • Industrial dye-house experience.


Job Responsibilities:


Scientific Support:

  • Primary scientific support to the Chief Technology Officer, providing expertise in
  • innovative dye formulation, applications, and laboratory management.
  • Collaborate closely with the CTO to align research projects with the company's
  • strategic goals and vision.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives in laboratory processes and
  • methodologies.


Project Coordination and Innovation:

  • Collaborate with CTO and CEO to contribute to the technological advancement and strategic growth of the company.
  • Prepare detailed reports on research activities and outcomes.
  • Coordinate the procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment,
  • Devise research projects focused on exploring innovative applications.


Grant-Funded Project Liaison with the CEO:

  • Work closely with CEO on grant-funded projects, advising on budget spend, optimising cost-effective outcomes, progress reporting and timeline efficiency.
  • Lab Management and Health & Safety:
  • Oversee lab operations, ensure a safe and compliant working environment, implement and enforce health and safety protocols,


IP Documentation Processes:

  • Develop and implement documentation processes for intellectual property (IP) purposes, including detailed records of experimental procedures, formulations, and research outcomes,
  • Collaborate with the CTO and legal/IP teams to safeguard and document proprietary processes and formulations,
  • Support the preparation of manuscripts and patent applications, collaborating closely with management.
