Brand - Managing Director

We are looking for Brand MD to manage the commercial growth of one of the UK's favourite toy brands.
Overview
- Developing and executing the brand’s business strategies.
- Identifying, developing and mentoring a team that will form the core of the business unit.
- Preparing and implementing comprehensive plans to drive growth.
- Developing a clear and detailed view of the customer (existing and potential) the markets (existing and potential) and the product pipeline.
- Developing new subject matter and new routes to new customers, supported by Customer Insights, Research and controlled experimentation.
- Embedding a new way of working throughout the business, drawing on input and support from across the organisation.
- Providing regular updates and evaluation of progress to the operating board and CEO.
- The ideal candidate will be a commercial and strategic leader with a passion for, and desire to understand, the customer, the market and the product.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the brand’s business strategies in order to attain the goals of the board and shareholders.
- Provide commercial and strategic updates to the CEO and board so that they will have accurate view of the market and the brand’s future as we embark on this journey.
- Develop, communicate and maintain trust in relationships with shareholders, business partners and all departments throughout the business both domestically and internationally.
- Oversee the brand’s financial performance, investments and any other business ventures that may make sense over the years (e.g. licences / partnerships / collaborations).
- Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of team members and other teams across the organisation, providing leadership, guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance.
- Lead the team with an experimental attitude and don’t be afraid to fail when exploring new ideas.
Requirements, skills and previous experience
- Minimum 15 years experience in brand management, ideally in toys & games or an adjacent sector.
- Proven experience as business leader.
- Willingness and appetite to challenge assumptions about the brand, products and range.
- Experience on working on successful product launches.
- Demonstrable experience in developing strategies and business plans.
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Excellent financial, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Evidence of being responsible for, and successfully driving a business to meet and outperform targets and KPIs.
- A proven track record in a customer-focused environment such as consumer goods, retail or consumer manufacturing.
- Evidence of working on brands with complexities in design, manufacture and supply chain.
- Experience of working on brands that have evolved, reinvented or reimagined themselves.
- A mix of domestic and international brand experience is crucial.
- The candidate will also need to be able to demonstrate an understanding of working with brands across D2C / Digital as well as independent, national, wholesale and export channels, from a trade marketing perspective.
- Prior experience of evolving a business strategy to match changing consumer trends, preferably with experience of harnessing digital technology in unit cost reduction or enabling customer or consumer interface.
- The candidate must be champions of a data-led approach, that has used customer insight to develop strong, long term, value-adding relationships with customer.
