Lean Six Sigma EMEA Lead – Smiths Group (Birmingham)


The main purpose of this role is to train and coach Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Black Belts (BB), Green Belts (GB) and Site Lean Leads (SLL) across the organisation.


This role also serves as coach for Lean Six Sigma (LSS) projects and for SES (Smiths Excellence System) deployment through SES maturity assessment and kaizen execution, whilst providing expertise to Smiths that enables strategic excellence worldwide.


Responsible for leading change by training Champions, team members and stakeholders to deliver performance improvement using Lean Six Sigma tools, methods, and concepts. You will also Support and champion SES deployment in their region.


This is a key role in leading and driving the cultural and business transformation efforts. This position requires excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, the ability to work independently and partner with business leaders and key stakeholders in identifying and executing projects in concert with other departments across the organisation.


The key responsibilities for the role are as follows –


  • Builds SES capabilities within Smiths in alignment with SES strategy.
  • Delivers LSS training for Master Black Belts (MBBs), Black Belts (BBs), Site Lean Leads (SLLs), Green Belts (GBs) and Yellow Belt (YBs) to introduce team members to SES methodologies (Lean & Six Sigma principles and tools)
  • Acts as a coach for BBs on LSS projects to deliver business results (which may include cost reduction, cash flow improvement, revenue enhancement, defect reduction, cycle time improvement...) with a timeframe of 6 months leadtime per BB project.
  • Acts as a coach for BBs on GB coaching to deliver business results (which may include cost reduction, cash flow improvement, revenue enhancement, defect reduction, cycle time improvement...) with a timeframe of 3 months leadtime per GB project.
  • Engages Champions, Process Owners, team members and stakeholders to deliver performance improvement using Lean Six Sigma tools, methods, and concepts.
  • Partner with the operating entities (Divisions, China and Group) to understand the SES maturity level of their sites & functions through the SES journey assessment and develop an SES deployment roadmap in order to achieve excellence.
  • Facilitates workshops/kaizen events to bring together cross-functional teams to achieve targeted performance improvement in a compressed timeframe within the context of belted projects or SES deployment roadmap in sites & functions aligned to the Y-Tree.
  • Identifies, promotes, and disseminates out-of-the-box Lean thinking and best practices, supports and coaches during SES strategy workshops and project implementations.
  • Plays a role in facilitating the effectiveness of the enterprise-wide SES deployment including active participation in the global community of learning, sharing of best practices, supporting the success of SES at Smiths.
  • Functions as a catalyst for a culture of excellence including Customer focus, data-driven decision-making, ownership of processes and operational metrics, Lean Six Sigma as Smiths’ Way of Working, and Servant Leadership to create an inclusive continuous improvement environment.
  • Creates and updates LSS training and SES journey assessment.



The ideal candidate will have the following skills/experience –


Preferred Education, Qualification and Experience:


  • 15 years of demonstrable and extensive Lean Six Sigma Training and Coaching experience.
  • Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt or Black Belt
  • Line Management experience combined with skills in Microsoft Visio, Minitab (or other statistical software) as well as MS Office Applications.
  • Experience presenting to senior level meetings (preferably Vice-President to “C-Suite”).


SKILLS

  • Highly seasoned subject matter expert in Lean and Six Sigma
  • Significant demonstrable experience diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing solutions to resolve problems.
  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).
  • Experience leading and creating high-performing teams and championing change.
  • Experience with analysing and reporting data to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
  • Leadership – ability to formulate and communicate clear vision and sense of direction and mobilize people.
  • Communication – ability to effectively influence and articulate using different channels (verbal and written). Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Facilitating – ability to organize and facilitate multidisciplinary teams through structured workshops (strategic session, Kaizens, problem solving sessions).
  • Change management – ability to communicate a need for change, create all necessary conditions for successful change and overcome different forms of resistance.
  • Coaching – ability to coach people to develop their skills and abilities to achieve agreed upon objectives.
  • Training – ability to identify and formulate training needs and assure training execution and follow up.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time for business purposes.
