About the Role:


Responsibilities

An integral part of the Hardware engineering team, the Lead Compliance engineer is responsible for ensuring that a product complies with regulations of the relevant market authorities (usually CE, FCC & ISED) where it is planned to be released commercially. To that purpose, they will:

  • Support R&D teams to identify compliance related constraints and opportunities during design and architecture stage:
  • Research and define compliance requirements early in the product development cycle; including interacting with external third parties/notified bodies for clarification of positions.
  • Look for the optimal certification angle, ensuring maximum use case coverage whilst minimizing testing efforts and risks.
  • Define and run a subset of tests that will be run as a Pre-Compliance exercise to derisk and potentially identify design changes required ahead going into full test campaign.
  • Own complete certification process for HW products:
  • Request relevant information from internal teams and suppliers to build technical files for Sportable HW products.
  • Write detailed test plans
  • Act as main point of contact with all suppliers and test houses involved in the certification process.
  • Run testing at/with external test houses - with the support of the R&D team for troubleshooting.
  • Analyse and question Test results/reports to make sure they are correct and well run.
  • Act as a technical author, writing documentation and driving the actual submission and/or self-declaration process.
  • Report project status and progress to Project Managers – ensuring that the execution remains within agreed timeline and budget.
  • Contribute to improve or create new engineering process and practices relating to the Compliance function; within the Hardware team, as well as for its interfaces with internal teams and externally with test houses and other suppliers.


Technical Skills / Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a similar role with direct experience running CE and FCC certification for complex electronics products including Radio function.
  • Hands-on individual with strong technical background in Electronics engineering:
  • Ability to troubleshoot/investigate/resolve issues in an EMC & Radio lab testing environment.
  • Ability to learn how Sportable system and products are operated in the field and devise ways this can be reproduced in a lab environment.
  • Capable of contributing during product design reviews.
  • Excellent Communication, written and verbal:
  • As a Lead, they will need to be able to summarize and report project status clearly within the company.
  • They will be representing the company in meetings with key suppliers
  • Communicating directly with market authorities on behalf of Sportable.

Place of Work

The role is based in Sportable HQ, North-West London (Stone X Stadium, NW4 1RL, UK), where most of Sportable’s HW, SW and Product testing engineering resources and facilities are located. The Lead Compliance Engineer will be expected to be working onsite up to 3 days a week to insure optimal communications and hands-on understanding of the hardware products, their use cases and their development status.

Frequent visits to test houses in the UK to be expected as well.
