Senior Quantity Surveyor


Location: Shropshire, Telford TF2 9FT

Salary: Circa £50K per annum, DOE + Company Car / Allowance

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Senior Quantity Surveyor – The Role


In the role as Senior Quantity Surveyor you will provide full cost management and reporting developing good working relationships with the diverse range of suppliers for the project.


You will have experience of managing projects from the procurement stages through to final account. The SQS will take accountability for personal and professional development as well as sharing knowledge and best practice within the team.


You will have a desire to understand and promote the Company purpose, vision, values and culture.


Key Responsibilities;


• Preparation of and the evaluation and submission of claims from Subcontractors for Compensation Events/Variations

• Review weekly site records including allocation sheets and site diaries - providing feedback and advice where appropriate

• Final account negotiation achieving the best possible outcomes

• Management of commercial aspects with the client including Compensation Events/Variations, Extension of Time and Completion request etc

• Work in conjunction with the contract delivery teams to ensure the budgets are not exceeded

• Manage the commercial aspects of subcontract accounts from procurement to interim and final account agreement

• You will ensure that the month on month cash position is positive and the forecasted project margin is met or exceeded.

• You will be responsible for administering subcontracts to include payments and claims and submitting progress claims to the client.

• Report month CVR’s to the Commercial Director.

• Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors

• Attend site progress meetings

• Produce management information required and take responsibility for the accuracy of information (Provisions, Cash flows, Applications, etc)

• Manage Risk Registers identifying project risks, opportunities and value engineering opportunities

• Attend project handover meetings

• Working within a team of 8 Surveyors, the successful Senior Quantity Surveyor shall work on projects between £?m and £?, usually on dwellings of 150 or more, preparing cost plans and carrying out interim valuations.

• The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will mainly work on new build residential projects as a QS/EA/PM, whilst also acting as QS within other sectors.

• Ensure that the contract delivery team are briefed and have sufficient commercial support to monitor and react to budget variances

• Maximising value and minimising cost, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost base

• Ensuring that cash flow is maximised including ensuring that payments are received on time

• Preparation of monthly financial performance reports

• Advising contract delivery teams to manage project performance

• Assessing main contract terms and conditions and ensuring they are reflected appropriately in any engagements with the Supply Chain

• Communicates information and ideas proactively and confidentially in a way which is received positively, both verbally and in writing.

• Review weekly cost to complete/budget reviews with the contract delivery teams

• To ensure draft/outline CTC's are completed via communication with Project Managers

• Maintaining deadlines in line with the monthly commercial calendar

• Attend internal and external commercial review meetings

• Ensure commercial challenge at all times to contract delivery teams

• Assist in the production and development of contract programmes and strategy

• Upload documentation as and when necessary, in line with business requirements

• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and produces accurate work.

• To represent and serve the best interests of the company to meet client expectations and encourage repeat business.

• Prepare the cost / value reconciliation reports accurately and in accordance with company procedure.

• Prepare and agree interim valuations at the agreed dates to gain the best commercial advantage for the company.

• Prepare, and in conjunction with senior management agree final account with client`s representative.

• Agree final accounts with subcontractors to maximise project margins.

• Ensure sub contract orders are prepared in accordance with company procedure with reference to the date given on the procurement schedules and / or in accordance with the contract programme having achieved the appropriate approvals.


Senior Quantity Surveyor – What we need from you


Skills & Experience;


• It is essential, that you can demonstrate a passion for Quantity Surveying and have an appreciation of construction processes.

• Strong Numeracy, Good mathematical & accounting skills, cost control and financial reporting.

• Good working knowledge of MS Excel/ Word and the ability to learn how to use specialist software.

• Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills, The ability to work in a team, methodical work approach, attention to detail.

• A successful track record of preparing cost plans independently

• Experience in a fast paced, national and multi-site business

• Self-starter who has the ability to prioritise a varied workload and demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines


Qualifications;


• BSc (hons) in Quantity Surveyor or equivalent qualification.

• 5+ years cross sector experience in a QS/PQS environment.

• Chartered Quantity Surveyor or working towards becoming chartered

• To have a full UK Driving Licence is essential, as travel and site visits will be necessary.

• CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
