The role of Cost Manager (Post Capex) is pivotal to our future growth plans, through driving continued capital cost efficiencies which enables faster and greater growth, through providing first class cost controls and contractual protection to manage cost and commercial risk.


What you will be doing:

  • Reporting construction costs for Travel, International and High Street businesses;
  • Managing costs, driving value and ensuring cost risks are mitigated through external QS resources and internal PMs
  • Ensuring quality tendering and close out processes are followed;
  • Working with estimating team to flag cost risks / trends to mitigate cost exposures;
  • Managing bulk procured reclaimed stocks;
  • Liaising with finance team to ensure that key budgeting milestones are met;
  • Ensuring that suppliers are vetted and their works are covered by suitable contracts.


What we are looking for:

  • Experience in working in a fast paced and exciting retail environment;
  • Be able to demonstrate significant experience in capital cost management and project commercial management;
  • Ideally a QS or cost management background with accreditation in a relevant area eg, RICS, CIOB, or have certification within one of the specialist areas relevant to the role;
  • Ideally be degree qualified in a related field;
  • Be highly proficient in the use of MS Excel;
  • Be a self-motivated, driven individual with a logical and methodical mindset who continually seeks process improvements / refinements;
  • Consistently role model the WHSmith values, be a true team player, and be focused on developing both your team and yourself to continuously improve.
