Head of Legal – Sports World Championship


Blending high-speed excitement in a realm where relentless innovation, marine preservation, and exhilarating races converge, is unveiling a new chapter in water sports, we are excited to offer this is a unique opportunity within the Sporting Sector as, Head of Legal, reporting into the General Counsel


Solid experience within the Legal Department of a Global Sports or Sports Events Company, delivering worldwide events is essential. This would most likely be the successful candidates second role after practice, which should ensure you are able and comfortable working autonomously or as a senior member of a team


This role offers the entrepreneurism of a busy start-up environment, faced paced, dynamic, whilst affording some of the structure of a larger house. This is a role where the successful candidate can and will be expected to make difference. We are in Season 2 and would like the successful candidate work in close collaboration with the business and senior management to manage the commercial aspects of the Championship, moving forwar


You should be prepared, to hit the ground running and get stuck in on a wide range of legal work supporting the commercial, media/content and communications teams. In return, we will give you a broad range of experience and learning/development opportunities along with the opportunity to develop your skills in a sporting events.


Global travel to the locations of events, is a key part of the role.


The role will have the following responsibilities


  • Managing a pipeline of commercial work to launch the Championship and for each race event
  • Drafting location and venue agreements for the organisation of racing events.
  • Preparing various commercial agreements, including but not limited to sponsorship agreements, merchandise and licensing agreements, marketing competition terms and conditions.
  • Providing advice to our commercial department on specific sponsorship, commercial, media and IP related matters. Assistance with racing team contractual matters (pursuant to agreements between Business and the racing teams).
  • Assisting sustainability team with related initiatives.
  • Media rights’ agreements (broadcast rights, production).
  • Reviewing and negotiating introducer/commission/agency agreement andManaging a Paralegal.


What we are looking for:


  • A combination of solid private practice and commercial in-house experience would be preferred.
  • Experience in the sports sector (or other relevant events-based industry) would be desirable but is not a pre-requisite.
  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand complex contractual frameworks.
  • Soild exposure to sponsorship agreements.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/workstreams and prioritise appropriately.
  • Independent & resourceful self-starter with strong work ethics.
  • Experience negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Excellent understanding of a range of commercial law principles (e.g. intellectual property, sponsorship, licensing, contract law).
  • Can-do attitude and problem-solving/solutions focussed approach.Interest in working in a dynamic, start-up environment.
