Location: London or Bristol (hybrid working arrangements) with travel to the Sizewell C site in Suffolk.

Employment Type: Permanent, full-time.

Employment basis: The role is expected to be a full-time position however we are open to discussing a more flexible or part- time approach where possible.

Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We are seeking an experienced Head of Programme Engineering to join the Technical Directorate (TD) at Sizewell C, driving excellence in design, engineering, and project delivery. You will oversee the replication and adjustment of designs, ensuring seamless integration and configuration across the Nuclear Island (NI) Programme.

As Head of Programme Engineering, you will lead the design and delivery of Sizewell C’s Nuclear Island (NI) programme, driving replication, innovation, and quality. This is a pivotal leadership role with multiple opportunities available across various programmes and disciplines within the NI scope.

The Nuclear Island (NI) is the heart of a nuclear power plant, housing critical components like the reactor, steam generators, and containment structure. It is responsible for generating heat through nuclear fission and ensuring safety with robust systems and controls. The NI works alongside the Conventional Island, which converts steam into electricity, forming the core of the plant’s operations.

In this role, you will:

Lead Design Delivery: Manage design work packages, including replication, adjustments, and site-specific solutions.

Drive Strategy: Implement the projects’ end-to-end configuration and replication strategy to ensure consistency and efficiency.

Mobilise Teams: Ensure the right specialists are in place to support every phase of design delivery.

Solve Technical Challenges: Act as the go-to leader for resolving complex technical issues, risks, and opportunities.

Ensure Compliance: Oversee design acceptance in line with Sizewell C’s Design Assurance Model and CDM regulations.

Champion Replication: Embed replication principles across all designs to deliver value and consistency.

Collaborate Strategically: Work with other Programme Heads to align resources, improve processes, and drive results.

Shape Leadership: Play a key role in the NI Programme’s strategic direction and the success of the Technical Directorate.

• A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering major infrastructure projects in complex, dynamic environments.
• Strong understanding of engineering processes, technical coordination, and quality assurance.
• Excellent skills in influencing, facilitating, and building effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Nuclear sector experience is an advantage.

Sizewell C Limited (Sizewell C) is nuclear site licensed company whose business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Sizewell C was formerly under the majority ownership of the EDF Group but is currently majority owned by HM Government and operates as an independent company. EDF remains a key shareholder in Sizewell C and the business therefore maintains close links to EDF as a part of its ‘nuclear family’.

As a Sizewell C employee, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email, or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group.

* Sizewell C Limited will be moving offices from 90 Whitfield Street to 25 Copthall Avenue.

25 Copthall Avenue is a modern building just a short walk from Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations. Sizewell C will occupy the whole of the 4th floor. We are targeting a move in February 2025.
This role will be contractually based at 25 Copthall Avenue. However, depending on the date of the move there may be a period that you will be required to work temporarily from our existing office at 90 Whitfield Street
