You'll lead the design and delivery of electrical systems that support the maintenance of Astute Class submarines - critical assets in national defence. This is a career-defining opportunity to contribute to a programme that will shape the future of naval engineering while accelerating your own professional growth.Day-to-day, you'll support the delivery of electrical systems as part of the Electrical Engineering Team in Devonport.Leading and managing one or more technical design packages, ensuring requirements are met throughout the design processProviding technical design guidance and reviewing sub-contractor designs for compliance with specifications and standardsCollaborating across engineering functions and stakeholders to integrate designs and manage interfacesMaintaining the engineering configuration of the design intent through effective change controlSupporting the delivery of safe, compliant and innovative electrical engineering solutionsThis role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with typically 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.Essential experience of the Principal Engineer - Electrical: Defence, Nuclear, Oil & Gas or other highly regulated industry Electrical engineering (preferably power distribution or EC&I) background Regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to electrical design and construction (including CDM Principal Designer responsibilities) Solid understanding of engineering design and safety practices, tailored to the role, discipline and project needs Desirable Experience: Technical management of specialist sub-contract designers Experience of working in BIM environments. Awareness of project planning, project management and budgeting. Qualifications for the Principal Engineer - Electrical: Degree in Electrical Engineering. Experience in lieu of formal education would be considered. Chartered Engineer with membership of an accredited body (i.e. IEEE, IMarEST or IET) or working towards chartered status Security ClearanceThe successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
