Run what runs the world.This Position reports to:Projects Operations ManagerRole Overview:We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in high voltage substation design, including both air-insulated (AIS) and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). This role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and the ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion.As a Lead Electrical Engineer within Process Automation Energy Industries you will have the opportunity to act as the technical lead on projects within a dynamic team covering a wide variety of industry including renewables (Wind/H2/Hydro), Oil Gas & Chemicals and Power-to-X.Each day, you will ensure the activities related to all engineering disciplines within your area of responsibility are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by acting as a design authority for the electrical engineering discipline.This is a Hybrid role based in ABB Energy Industries - offices in Daresbury, Aberdeen or St Neots #LI-hybridJob Responsibilities:Leading the design and implementation of eHouse, Substation, MV/HV/EHV AIS & GIS Switchgear (up to 400kV), Step up/down transformers, and Protection.Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure project success, manage timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, and conduct risk assessments with mitigation strategies.Acting as Electrical TA and providing technical support and troubleshooting during project execution, prepare detailed project documentation, and conduct HAZOP and EHAZOP workshops.Installation and grid code compliance, including leading power system studies, with a proven track record of leading large projects and coordinating with multiple parties.Being very familiar and ensuring compliance with UK electrical industry standards, codes, and regulations.Provide technical expertise in the areas of power distribution, protection, and control systems.Oversee the preparation of detailed engineering reports, plans, and specifications.Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimates, and technical evaluations.Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff.Participate in project management activities, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.Develop and maintain client relationships, and assist with marketing and business development efforts.Candidate Background:Experience in the Energy industry, particularly in power generation, transmission, or distribution.Masters or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.Chartered Electrical Engineer or working towardsMinimum of 7 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on high voltage substation design.Proficiency in electrical design software and tools.A collaborative, solution-focused approach, and strong written and spoken communication skillsStrong English Language skill.Demonstrate ability to plan and prioritise workload.Commercial AwarenessWhat's in it for you?You will work with cutting-edge technologies in Process Automation and emerging energy sectors, and be empowered to make a visible contribution that drives profitable growth for the business.BenefitsABB offers a full range of benefits to help you thrive at work and beyond.Competitive salary25 days annual leave plus bank holidaysCompetitive contributory pension schemeLife assuranceFlexible benefits scheme (Includes options to buy/sell holidays, health checks, dental, eye care, gym memberships, cycle to work, gadget discounts and more)Internal mobility opportunities, mentorships & access to projects globallyEmployee Assistance ProgrammeGenerous employee referral schemeFlexible workingPrivate medical coverGenerous bonus schemeFor the 5th consecutive year ABB UK has been recognised as a Top Employer in UK.
