This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the green revolution in aviation, a project that aligns with our company mission, "To be the Most Trusted and Sustainable Partner in the Sky".Reporting to the Electrical Network Technical Authority, you will support the Electrical Power Network team in delivering an Electrical Power network to enable the development of sustainable aerospace power and propulsion systems.The electrical power network includes the power conditioning from the fuel cells and power conditioning from the electrical energy storage system to support the delivery of the right power quality. The electrical power network also includes the electrical protection and re-configuration features to manage failure cases which the role will be expected to support on.This role will be based at our Bristol GTC, however travel will be expected including occasional international.How You'll ContributeThe role will be responsible for designing the electrical power network distribution assemblies to support demonstration of the fuel cells, power conditioning and electrical propulsion for a flying demonstrator. The Senior Research Engineer will be responsible for the following:-Lead the electrical design and sizing of the Electrical BusbarDelivery of design of Electrical Network Distribution AssembliesPrepare technical documentation, including electrical schematics and design reportsDeliver electrical switchboard design (including busbar, fault protection, ground, sensors etc.)Setting separation and segregation limits within PDCCollaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure design requirements are metSupport of electrical power network technology roadmapsSupport of future power and propulsion system studiesWork collaboratively with GKN Fokker-Elmo in the NetherlandsValidate the Power Distribution Centres at a test site in the UKInternal & external technical relationships with Customers and suppliersWhat You'll BringTo help us make a difference, you'll bring your passion and expertise/ talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:EssentialMinimum B.Eng degree qualified with ≥ 3 years relevant experienceExperience in designing electrical distribution assembly equipmentExperience in designing and modelling dc electrical power systemsBackground of developing electrical distribution equipment design solutionsExperience in installation of electrical switching/ fault protection/ fault limiting devicesGood understanding of electrical distribution equipment manufacturing methodsGood understanding of impacts of higher voltage solutions in aerospaceGood understanding of electrical distribution equipment manufacturing methods.Desirable Aerospace Industry experience else experience in a safety based industryExperience in creating/ overseeing electrical diagrams and technical specificationsExperience in electrical switchboard designHigh Power, High Voltage design experienceExperience of performing FMEAsExperience in Ground ProtectionWider experience of control of electric Power Systems, preferably hybrid energy source systemsMust be capable of working with and specifying work for academic and industrial partners to obtain hardware delivery.Personal AttributesStrong Communication SkillsExcellent Team PlayerPassion & EnergyExecutionProblem Solving(Self) disciplineWe are looking for people who want to make a difference, talented members with the skills and passions to become the best of the future in what they do.
