Job DescriptionRole purpose and overviewPublishers ensure that Telegraph content is of the highest quality. You will sub-edit and build articlesacross all Features & Lifestyle desks, interrogating copy and ensuring it is tight and accurate, and optimise pieces for audience, platforms and search.Working in a fast-moving and often pressurised environment, you will be capable of publishing numerous articles a day with accuracy and flair. You will use video, pictures and graphics creatively to make articles visually engaging and should be able to write strong headlines and brilliant standfirsts and captions.Publishers also sub, build and send newsletters, and develop simple visuals. The role also involves acting up on the rota as required.This role will report into the Features & Lifestyle Chief Sub.Key responsibilitiesSub copy to ensure it is accurate, clear and conforms to house styleProactively raise questions and flag errors with senior publishers and commissionersEnsure headlines and furniture are sharp and digital friendlyMake use of the best video, pictures and other visual assetsFollow direction of Head of Publishing and Lead Publishers to ensure priorities and deadlines are met and that content is optimised for a digital audienceSupport Lead and Senior Publishers in challenging and collaborating with commissionersHave an understanding of performance data to learn what works best for a digital audienceWork with SEO to ensure articles perform across searchExecute and follow plans set for longer term series and special projectsGenerate creative solutions to presenting, publishing and promoting content online (e.g. social collabs, app sells, newsletters etc.) when requiredSource data to commission graphics and illustrations when requiredSub, build and send department newsletters when requiredRun live blogs when requiredKey skillsExperience sub-editing stories for digital platformsExperience of working in Features & LifestyleQuick, accurate subbing and writing of headlinesDigital publishing skills including knowledge of visual storytelling and a brilliant eye for photography as well as creative flair for info boxes, polls, graphics, etcEnthusiasm and imagination for presenting stories digitallyAble to respond well under pressure and adhere to strict deadlinesUnderstanding of SEO and promotion platformsFamiliarity with using content management systems for digital publishingStrong news sense and judgmentOur benefitsThe nature of our industry means life at the Telegraph Media Group is fast-paced, demanding, and interesting.
