Howami addresses the growing mental health risks for women, low menstrual literacy, and persistent period stigma. The World Health Organization's 2023 Menstrual Health report highlights the global need for improved menstrual literacy and awareness. This report emphasizes the importance of education about menstruation and creating positive norms. Our innovation leverages advanced gaming technology for therapeutic outcomes, aiming to counteract the negative effects of social media by promoting embodiment and self-awareness.Howami is an innovative mobile application designed to help menstruating individuals engage with their menstrual cycle and emotions through the use of advanced game design technology, CGI visuals, and a fluid, gesture-controlled interface. Our mission is to combat the mental health crisis affecting women, a crisis exacerbated by unhealthy social media usage, lack of menstrual literacy, and persistent period stigma. Our app provides a safe, healthy, and non-exploitative platform tailored to the needs of people.Role (Volunteer, unpaid): UI/UX Designer (Figma)Role Description: We're looking for a talented Figma Designer to support the early-stage development of Howami, a wellbeing project helping teenage girls and young people understand their emotions and menstrual cycle with more confidence, calm, and clarity. While the deeper mechanics of the product are confidential, our mission is simple:Equip teens with healthier emotional toolsEmpower trusted adults to support themBuild a beautiful, intuitive digital experience that feels genuinely supportiveWhat You'll Be DoingThis role is perfect for someone who enjoys bringing order, consistency, and design craft to a live product prototype. You'll work directly with me to prepare our Figma workspace for developer handover and internal testing. Key responsibilities: Tidy and structure our Figma file/page hierarchy Organise components, variants, naming, and libraries Ensure designs follow a clean grid-based layout Standardise UI elements, spacing, and visual consistency Improve and organise prototype interactions Offer thoughtful UI/UX refinements Help make the overall file clearer, lighter, and easier to collaborate onWhat We're Looking For Strong Figma skills (design + file organisation) A clean, modern design eye Experience preparing files for developer use Ability to commit 6–8 hours/week for around 6 weeks A portfolio or examples of past Figma work This is a volunteer role, ideal for someone who wants meaningful experience, a strong portfolio piece, or a chance to shape a wellbeing project making a real difference.What You'll GainExperience within an impactful youth wellbeing start-upCollaborative work with a small, committed founding teamClear tasks and achievable weekly objectivesOptional credit as a named contributor in the MVPTime Commitment: Volunteer 7-9 hours per week for 1-2 months remotely If you want to make change, apply to volunteer with Howami
