Job DescriptionRole OverviewThe Sustainability Manager plays a key role in delivering sustainability ambitions across the projects and business operations. This role focusses on driving high technical standards, embedding sustainability into project delivery, and supporting the internal teams and supply chain to meet both company expectations and client requirements.You will be working within the Sustainability Department and reporting to the Principal Sustainability Manager. The ideal candidate provides leadership, technical expertise, and strategic insight across priority areas, including BREEAM, embodied carbon, circular economy, social value, and net zero alignment.The role also welcomes candidates from a document controller background but must have experience in Breeam and Carbon Assessments. Key ResponsibilitiesLead sustainability requirements across assigned projects, ensuring compliance with client expectations and planning conditions.\tOversee BREEAM strategies, assessments, and delivery, ensuring robust evidence collection and early integration into design.\tGuide project teams on embodied carbon reduction, including LCA processes, materials selection, and A1–A5 reporting.\tSupport delivery of circular economy principles, waste minimisation strategies, and materials resource efficiency.\tLead social value delivery and reporting across projects, working closely with project teams and community partners.\tContribute to pre-construction activities, including developing sustainability strategies for bids and tenders.Key Focus AreasThe ideal candidate will have experience in most of the following areas:BREEAM (Essential)\tEmbodied Carbon & Whole Life Carbon Assessments (Essential)\tCircular Economy principles & materials strategy (Essential)\tSocial Value delivery & reporting (Desirable)\tNet Zero strategy alignment (Desirable)\tKnowledge of ISO 14001 (Desirable)Skills, Experience & QualificationsEssentialExperience working in a sustainability role within the construction industry.\tStrong technical knowledge of BREEAM and embodied carbon.\tExperience engaging with project teams, design teams, and subcontractors.\tStrong analytical and reporting skills.\tExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.\tBA in Geography / Environmental disciplinesDesirableExperience with LCA software\tBREEAM AP or BREEAM Assessor qualification.\tExperience with GLA requirements, including Circular Economy Statements, WLC Assessments, and Section 106 obligations.\tKnowledge of RICS Whole Life Carbon, UKGBC frameworks, PAS 2080, and UK Net Zero Carbon Standard.\tExperience contributing to tender submissions or client proposals.\tMSc in an environmental field is a bonus.Key OpportunitiesThis role provides a unique opportunity to:Be part of a fast-growing organisation with strong sustainability ambitions.\tPlay a central role in implementing Red’s sustainability strategy across multiple projects.\tInfluence project outcomes through embodied carbon reduction, BREEAM leadership, and sustainable design solutions.\tDevelop internal capability across the business and supply chain.\tSupport the advancement of carbon accounting practices within the organisation.\tGrow professionally within a department that is expanding and gaining strategic prominence
