The Role We are looking for a technically strong and leadership-focused finance professional to take ownership of Morrisons' external financial reporting and internal financial control environment.In this critical role, you will be the guardian of our numbers. You will oversee the preparation of all published financial accounts for the Group while simultaneously driving a robust internal control framework. You will lead a talented team of qualified and part-qualified accountants to ensure our results are accurate and compliant.This is a high-profile position involving close collaboration with the CFO, internal stakeholders, and external auditors to ensure the highest standards of financial integrity.Key Responsibilities1. External Financial ReportingStatutory Accounts Ownership: Lead the preparation and publication of all external financial accounts for the Morrisons Group.Technical Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all technical accounting requirements, managing a complex mix of IFRS, FRS 102, and FRS 101 across the group and subsidiary entities.Investor Reporting: oversee the preparation of quarterly group accounts specifically for our investors and debt holders.Audit Management: Act as the primary lead for the external audit process, managing the relationship with auditors to ensure a smooth and efficient audit cycle.Stakeholder Partnership: Work closely with the CFO and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate inputs and robust reviews of all financial data.2. Financial Control & Internal ComplianceControl Framework: Drive, review, and challenge the internal financial control environment to ensure we are strictly compliant with accounting policies.Manage the monthly compliance and balance sheet review processes to ensure results are robust, well-controlled, and transparent.Continuous Improvement: proactively work with the wider Finance function to drive improvements in processes and controls, holding the business to the highest standards of financial discipline.3. Leadership & Team DevelopmentManage and develop two teams (7 colleagues in total):Reporting Team: A team of 3, including qualified ACA accountants.Control Team: A team of 4, comprising a mix of graduates, part-qualified, and qualified (ACA/CIMA) colleagues.About youQualifications: You are a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience.Technical Expertise: You possess deep technical accounting knowledge with practical experience in IFRS and UK GAAP (FRS 101/102) within a large group environment.Leadership: You have a proven track record of managing teams, with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop colleagues at varying stages of their careers.Mindset: You have a rigorous eye for detail and a passion for accuracy.
