As our portfolio continues to grow, we're looking for a talented Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Manchester.You'll work across a diverse range of sectors including Rail, Highways, Power, Defence, Aviation, Life Sciences, and Water, contributing to the technical delivery of innovative, integrated ground engineering solutions. You'll also support junior engineers and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams.Your Role Will Include:Developing geotechnical design and specification packages from concept to completionGround modelling and deriving characteristic geotechnical parametersPreparing desk studies, ground investigation specifications, and interpretive reportsDesigning shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, soil nails, and earthworksTackling complex ground conditions such as soft soils, slope instability, mine workings, and marginal materialsSupervising ground investigations and providing site support when requiredCollaborating with internal design teams and external stakeholdersRepresenting BakerHicks in client meetings and technical discussionsEnsuring compliance with current codes and standards including EC7, BS, CDM, and H&S regulationsWhat We're Looking For:A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology (or equivalent)Progress toward chartership (ICE, GeolSoc, IMMM); MSc or PhD is a plusA full UK driving licenceExperience in a design consultancy environmentProven geotechnical design experience (foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, slope stability, etc.)Solid understanding of UK ground conditions and investigation practicesProficiency in geotechnical design software (GEO5 experience desirable)Strong technical writing and communication skillsA collaborative, solution-oriented mindsetPTS certification is desirable but not essentialWillingness to travel occasionally for short-term site work across the UKWhy BakerHicks?Work on high-profile, technically challenging projects from day oneBe part of a growing, supportive Ground Engineering team within a leading multi-disciplinary consultancyEnjoy flexible hybrid working and a culture that encourages innovation and continuous developmentBenefit from structured career progression and professional support toward chartershipApply today and join an award winning teamBakerHicks has been delivering excellence in engineering, design, and project delivery since 1957.
