Space Underwriter

Job DescriptionAbout usAvencia Consulting are partnered with a leading Insurer based in the City who are looking to hire a Space Underwriter to join. The roleReporting to the Head of Space, this role will play a key part in developing a space book of business. We welcome those who are currently working in insurance within a Space team or someone who has an engineering background and keen to enter the sector. Key accountabilitiesParticipate in the underwriting process, evaluation, and presentation of submissions, analysing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage and contract languageAssist and work with risk modeling and pricing toolsOriginate, leverage, build and maintain broker and client relationshipsMonitor market developments and remain current regarding knowledge of all relevant classes of business, and legislated and regulatory changes / requirementsEnsure accuracy and integrity of underwriting data in group underwriting systemsPrepare and issue quotes on an accurate and timely basisSupervising and/or mentoring junior members of the teamEnsure compliance with internal and external underwriting regulations, liaising as appropriate with external bodies such as brokers, clients, auditors, and regulators as requiredAssist with strategic initiatives as needed to promote business growthSkills & experienceMinimum of 3 years' experience in a broking, underwriting or currently working in the space and defence sectorEstablished networks and strong existing relationships with brokers and clients, and ability to independently manage meetingsExcellent analytical skills, with a working knowledge of and ability to interpret the outputs of pricing models, and the statistical skills necessary to perform analyses on first principlesProven negotiator, with demonstrated ability to attract new business and retain clients
