Job Description VAT Compliance Specialist – Tax Centre of Excellence (Europe) Location: Chester, UK Full-TimeContract: 9-month contract initially with possibility of extensionAre you ready to take ownership of VAT compliance in a fast-paced, international environment? This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys detail-oriented work, problem solving, and collaborating across borders.We're looking for a VAT Compliance Specialist who will ensure timely and accurate indirect tax reporting, while also acting as a go-to advisor for VAT compliance questions from internal stakeholders.About the Role:Manage VAT compliance and reporting for a portfolio of European and international markets.Be the first point of contact for VAT compliance-related queries across the business.Stay current on local VAT legislation and contribute to the continuous improvement of compliance processes.Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders, including finance teams, advisors, and tax authorities.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual VAT and indirect tax returns (including EC Sales Listings, Intrastat, SAF-T, etc.).Coordinate VAT return approvals, payment requests, and archiving processes.Perform VAT General Ledger reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.Reconcile GL sales vs VAT reported sales and resolve open items.Assist with responding to business queries and support indirect tax audits.Help document VAT compliance requirements and collaborate with tax technology teams on implementations and testing.Monitor changes in VAT legislation and evaluate impact on reporting obligations.Maintain VAT codes and support the continuous automation and standardisation of processes.What You Bring2+ years of experience in VAT compliance within a multinational, shared services, or consulting environment.Strong Excel skills; experience with SAP or Oracle is an advantage.Fluency in English (additional languages are a plus).Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.What’s In It for You?Work in a professional, globally connected environment with a focus on tax compliance excellence.Gain international exposure and deepen your country-specific VAT knowledge.Be part of a team that values continuous improvement, process optimisation, and knowledge sharing.Develop both your technical tax expertise and your ability to influence across functions and cultures.
